The cure for Tribune's problems is officially worse than the disease. Who would have thought a year or two ago that reporters at the Los Angeles Times and Newsday would be pining for the days when Dennis Fitzsimmons was in charge? Because yesterday, new owner Sam Zell's wielded the same axe against Newsday that he had previously used on the opposite coast: the paper will lose 120 jobs, including 25 people in the newsroom, 10 of whom are top editors.
