The "Portfolio Effect" Hits Biz Mags

Call it "the Portfolio Effect" -- how does the impending launch of the last bottomless-pocketed magazine affect the fortunes of its competitors? While the Portfolio in question (Condé Nast Portfolio that is) stocks up on talent, Fortune has responded by hiring, while Businessweek reacts by firing. (And Forbes sells a chunk of itself to Bono.) Fortune added two new staffers this week:

The New York Times' infographic editor Sarah Slobin, who comes aboard as senior editor, and the New York Post's mogul watcher Time Arango, who's trying to make the jump from ace reporter to long-form features ...
