Hachette's Kliger shutters mag, Shocks industry

Jack Kliger did it again. Proving that he's never launched a magazine he couldn't close less than a year later, Hachette's CEO announced in an email sent to the company yesterday (sent via his chief flack, b.t.w.) that his experiment in importing lowest-common-denominator magazines from France had failed: Shock was being shut down. Terrifying to read and embarrassing when one was seen doing so, Shock lasted six months. Eight staffers were let go three days before Christmas including editor Mike Hammer. Time Inc.
