| eriksherman | Posted 2/20/2008 1:23:27 PM | show profile | email poster Many writers depend on free contract reviews from other writers. A recent experience I had underscored how problematic this can be. Here's my blog entry (waaay too long to run here): http://www.eriksherman.com/WriterBiz/2008/02/be-wary-of-free-contract-advice.html This isn't to suggest against contract reviews, but to support a buyer beware attitude. ------ Free writer resources: http://www.eriksherman.com/WriterBiz |
| InsomniacNOT | Posted 2/20/2008 2:30:28 PM | show profile Good article. I would also add that it's pretty easy to get bad legal advice from a lawyer so before you pay one, make sure you're getting a good lawyer. |
| westsidestory | Posted 2/20/2008 5:14:55 PM | show profile lawyers and agents screw up too I have to agree with the last post, and I'd add agents. In my personal experience, I would say that if you have a friend who has had a lot of contract experience, that person can be a help to "fix" a bad contract, especially one drafted by a lawyer with insuffient knowledge of a book's particular publishing environment. |
