Topic: How Does One Get a Book of Poetry Published?

| beachcomber | Posted 5/19/2008 6:23:25 PM | show profile For years, I've been collecting the poems I've written over the years just for the pleasure of returning to them later to revisit them and those moments of my life. But recently, I have begun to consider the possibility of publishing these poems within a collection so I may share them with others. Much of mediabistro's publishing content is focused on fiction and non-fiction, so I would like to know, after selecting and sequencing those that I would like to include, how do I go about having a book of my poetry published, without self-publishing it? |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 5/19/2008 7:47:19 PM | show profile Pretty simple: You find out the names of publishing houses that publish poetry books (a little googling should tell you the names). And then you pull your poems together and send them to the publishers. That's pretty much the process. The odds of finding a publisher who will be willing to pay the bill to publish your poems is about on par with buying a winning lottery ticket, as you might imagine. If your main goal is to have a little book of poems to give to friends and families, self-publishing is probably the way to go. |

| ISR | Posted 5/22/2008 9:13:46 AM | show profile Google poetry contests. That's how 99% of poetry books get published, even 2nd books. Once you're on your 3rd or so often you'll have a publisher already, but before that it's virtually impossible except via contests. |
