June 1, 2008, Barack Obama lost Puerto Rico in a landslide to Hillary Clinton. Obama lost the Hispanic vote in Texas, California and Florida.

Geraldo Rivera had a segement with Obama supporter Cheech Marin, who lives in mostly Anglo Malibu and Paul Rodriguez, a Clinton supporter on his show Geraldo at Large.

The two well known Latino comedians explained how they see the election and Paul Rodriguez actually said some remarks that might shock some liberal people, but many Latinos already knew. Latinos and black Americans have a very uneasy relationship. This is due to many black neighborhoods having an influx of new Hispanic immigrants. The two groups compete for jobs, schooling, affordable housing, and allocated federal money for programs and have been competeing for several years now. This causes resesntment and friction between the two groups. Latinos now make up a very large voting block and many Latinos are loyal to the Clintons, while Obama is seen as unexperienced and an unknown. There is reverse in the black community. Blacks overwhelmingly support Obama over Clinton.

Some Latinos suspect that Obama will favor African-American concerns over Latinos as both groups vie for economic and political power.

Paul Rodriguez said some off the cuff remarks on Geraldo's show and no doubt many people will see this as another gaffe by Clinton supporters. But there is some truth to what he said on Geraldo at Large, there is a simmering problem between both communities.

I am sure Rodriguez's comments on Fox's Geraldo at Large will be the topic of many youtube videos and commentators soon.

Re Paul Rodriguez on Geraldo's Show
I found his remarks about African Americans rude, and I found it rather surprising that he (Paul) would say some of the things he said. I think his remarks were insensitive, and frankly, lacked sophistication. At one point, he said "we see Blacks as maids..." No one in my family has ever been a maid. In fact, my housekeeper is Hispanic (btw, w/o a racist bone in her body), as are some of the guys who do yard work for me. What he (Paul) was referring to are tensions between low-income, minimally educated, Blacks and Hispanics in low income neighborhoods, and most of that tension is gang related. Historically, all groups of people with low education and very little access to a wide variety of people or options (in general) tend to express themselves through violence. As an African-American woman, with Hispanic friends and relatives, I really think we need to get past racist BS, and come together as sophisticated and intelligent people. I support Obama because I believe in his message. I don't believe or trust the Clintons or McCain, and now I can't watch Paul Rodriguez on television without reflecting on how he feels about me.

Geraldo, Ceech, and Paul Rodriguez: Spokespeople for Hispanics in America. And on their next show, Jorge Lopez and the guy from Treasure of the Sierra Madre ("Badgees? wWee don neeeed no steenkeen badgees!") are going to discuss why Obama doesn't drink Coronoa and go on spring break to Cancun.

Give me a break.

I detested what Rodriguez said.
I thought that Paul Rodriguez stepped over the line with his remarks.

I totally disagree with what he said and I cringed when he said it.
