Topic: Do you pitch editors who write?

They aren't staff writers, but are paid to field queries as well as, I guess, provide a consider amount of content. Have any freelance writers out there picked up on this and still bothered pitching these editors? If so, have you found their response rates to be lower? |
| D_S | Posted 6/7/2008 11:22:10 AM | show profile If a feature editor is assigned the job of fielding queries for a particular section, then you've no other option than to pitch them. Otherwise, it's up to you. Find the person who handles the section you are targeting and pitch to that individual. |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 6/7/2008 2:19:49 PM | show profile I don't think it matters. |
| JimmyG | Posted 6/10/2008 1:09:51 PM | show profile When I was a Senior Editor on staff I'd write one or two articles a year that interested me to look better when it came time to negotiate a raise. Some pubs require editors to write to save money. Once or twice I'd have to generate an article in a day to cover for one that fell through or a sudden surge in edit pages. Either way it shouldn't inhibit your pitching an editor who writes (unless, of course, you're afraid he or she will purloin your pitch--yes that can of worms again). |
