How many of you have taken online courses through mediabistro? I want to take a course, but before spending the $$$, I want to be sure of the benefits for my career and my resume. Thoughts or experiences you'd like to share?

anyone there?
Can anyone share their experience with utilizing the online courses on this site? I'm really curious and it appears to be a great way to further career education, without the daunting task of going back to school.

I took the one for writing for women's mags -- I found it helpful. Like most anything, I think it depends on what you bring to it, and how much work you put into it. And don't do it if you don't have the time to put into it, or it won't help.

it's also hit or miss with the instructors. I took personal essay writing with Randi Glatzer a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Then I took Journalism bootcamp with Joe Numier (sp?) and didn't even finish the course. Between being busy with work on my end, it just always felt like Numier was just in it for the money and was only willing to do the minimum of what it took to do the course.

It took me some time to build the courage to try again, but I did recently. So far so good.

You also might want to check the archives on this topic - it gets asked every few months.

Thank you!
I'll check the archives and thank you for your thoughts. I was hoping to sign up for the Intermediate Public Relations online course.

I enjoyed it at the time but am not convinced it really helped.

Tons of our students get published and make real progress through our online courses, and I'm happy to answer any questions you have. Feel free to drop me a line.
