Hi all,

I'm in the middle of pitching my first TV series to independent companies. While most require a completed submission release/disclaimer form, there are some companies that only need the proposal itself; in fact, they don't even have a release/disclaimer form for me to fill out.

I'm just wondering, is this normal? I know these companies are legit, since they produce some major television programs. But I want to be ensured that my concept won't be stolen in the long run. I registered my proposal/treatment with WGA, but obviously I would feel a lot safer filling out a disclaimer form before I pass it on . Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hi TV Gal,
Generally submission agmts exist to protect THEM, not you, but maybe they've scared off too many people and have decided to forego them, at least in the beginning. My guess is that production companies see themselves the same way agents or entertainment lawyers do, since they will be pitching the idea to a network on your behalf. You wouldnt ask an agent or lawyer to sign a submission release; its just understood that (I would hope) that your lawyer/agent isn't going to steal your idea.
