I recently had an internship interview during which I was asked how I would go about fact-checking a music review. I've been doing mainly freelance journalism for newspapers since graduation. I've never fact-checked (which if I understand correctly is often entry-level intern work) and certainly never done so on a music review. I've learned a little more about fact-checking since the interview, but I'm curious what the right answer was.

Maybe they wanted to know if you were familiar with the Billboard charts or how to source a musician's discography.

In the past, I wrote a lot of music reviews, never had
one fact checked at any publication. edited, yes.
fact checked, no. You can't fact check opinions,
so all that leaves would be checking basic info
about the artist or group, like names of band
members, where they're based, how many lps.
