Hi,

I created a Yahoo! email to join and post here. My email is not public. Nor is it something a spambot would come up with. But shortly after I signed up, I was added to the email list of Tooth and Nail Records and BEC Recordings. Both of these are Christian rock record labels.

I have 0 interest in such, and never even visited their Web sites. My guess is that someone who works for MB is on the "street team" or something for these labels, and added my email to their lists.

If this rings a bell (i.e., if someone that works there has stickers, posters, etc., for these bands), please ask them about it.

It's definitely not cool to add my email to your mailing lists.

Thanks!

Frank

Frank: I'm not sure how your address got into the hands of spammers, but I can't imagine any plausible scenario in which it came from mediabistro.com. We do not share our users' information with third parties, nor are individual employees allowed to use that information for any outside purpose. And while I can't vouch for the extracurricular activities of all of my coworkers, I'm pretty certain none of them are moonlighting for a Christian record label. (If you ever visited our offices, I think you'd know what I'm talking about.)

So how did it happen? Could be a spambot, could be that your address is similar to another one that is on these labels' lists, or it could be something else entirely. I have no idea how spammers go about building their lists. But I feel pretty confident in stating that they didn't get it from us.

Please feel free to email me offline if you have any other questions.

Thanks.

This post just makes me smile. Darn those street teams. (I feel your pain, though. I hate spam!)
