Position Summary:The Designer III is responsible for working with local sales and design teams to provide drafting, interpret project specifications and drawings, and assist with determining system layout of life safety, access control, CCTV and security systems to meet the needs of the customer.This position may also focus on fire alarm and/or sprinkler specialization.(Specific qualifications for fire and sprinkler listed below.)
Responsibilities:Work with the Sales and Technical staff to interpret project specifications and drawings, determining system layoutPerform to a professional standard for accurate, neat, error free work, as determined by the department managerComplete requests in accordance with sound business practices and general corporate policiesReview drawings to ensure completeness and accuracy of work performedUnderstand and utilize company-drafting proceduresPromote a team environment, assisting other drafters, designers, engineers with their projectsCreate background floor plans in AutoCAD from scanned or hardcopy floor plansPerform takeoff and prepare counts of equipment and devices from floor plansSupport local sales team with pre-sale site visits, system design and estimatingLead post sale system design including equipment and software choicesMonitor, manage and improve the efficiency of support services such as efficient maintenance of project documentation to include contracts, revisions, estimates, work drawing and specifications; facilitate coordination and communication between support functionsPromptly resolves questions and problems related to assigned areas raised by customers.Review plans where a design was prepared by others (i.e.:MEP or FPE firm)Review specifications where a design was prepared by others (i.e.:MEP or FPE firm)Create background floor plans in AutoCAD from scanned or hardcopy floor plansSupport sales department with pre-sale design and estimatingLead post sales system design including equipment choicesRequires communication and coordination with other departments to resolve customer complaints or inquiriesBuilds and maintains business relationships with clients by providing prompt and accurate services so as to promote customer loyaltyLead and/or assist with system programmingEngage in communications with our vendor partners on an as-needed basisPerforms other related duties as required and/or assignedKnowledge:Actively participate in personal and professional development and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies that the company offersHave proficient knowledge in the use of AutoCAD for the purpose of drafting and application of some of the systems ADT Commercial provides.Have proficient knowledge of the product lines and related parts used by ADT CommercialPossess a working knowledge of low voltage communications systemsSolid understanding of Security concepts, theories and processes. To include intrusion systems, access control, IP video and networking concepts and designs.Strong knowledge of electronic circuits, AC and DC voltage and basic relay logic in conjunction with a Security DesignConstruction Management Methodology. Fire Alarm Specific:Must demonstrate competency in advanced fire alarm design (high-rise, networks, voice evac, etc.) or video surveillance, access control systems or healthcare communications systemsPossess a working knowledge of low voltage communications systemsHave in-depth knowledge in current codes such as NFPA, IBC, IFC and the principles and practices of fire protection engineeringMust demonstrate competency in advanced fire alarm design (smoke control, graphic workstations, campus networks,etc.)Must have NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems or Sprinkler SystemsSprinkler Specific:Ability to field survey an existing sprinkler system and document the equipment being utilized and its exact locationAbility to use one or more sprinkler design software packages (AutoSprink, SprinkCAD, and or HydraCAD) to layout new sprinkler head locations and utilize a field survey do digitize an existing sprinkler systemAbility to use one or more sprinkler design software packages (AutoSprink, SprinkCAD, and or HydraCAD) for design purposes onlyBasic knowledge of sprinkler system components/equipment and how to use them properly based on their listing/approvalExperience coordinating project designs with other trades utilizing native AutoCAD filesHave in-depth knowledge of current codes such as NFPA and IBCAbility to use one or more sprinkler deisgn software packages (AutoSprink, SprinkCAD, and or HydraCAD) for stock listing & fabrication purposesMust have three (3) or more years of experience in wet and dry sprinkler systemsAbility to design and calculate Class I and III standpipe systemsExperience designing fire pump rooms (electric - horizontal split case and vertical in-line typeExperience analyzing water supply information to determine its sufficiencyExperience coordinating project designs with other trades utilzing BIM technology (i.e. Navis Works)Must be able to perform water-based fire protection system hydraulic calculations on tree and loop systemsMust have three (3) or more years of experience in deluge and preaction systemsExperience designing fire pump rooms (diesel type)Experience designing fire pump rooms (electric - vertical in-line type)Knowledge of gravity fed and buried water tanks and ability to size them properly for a given sprinkler systemIn depth knowledge of sprinkler system components/equipment and how to use them in order to material expenditures and maximize field labor productivityMust be able to perform water-based fire protection system hydraulic calculations on gridded systemsMust have NICET Level III in Water-Based Fire Protection Systems Layout
Pay and Benefits Disclosure :The salary range for this role is $64,035 - $128,069 and is based on experience and qualifications. Certain roles are eligible for annual bonus. These awards are allocated based on company and individual performance. We offer employees access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, short term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits and paid time off among others. Employees accrue up to 120 hours in their first year. Your accrual rate increases after your first year. We also offer 6 paid holidays.
