Background and Position Responsibilities

The North Carolina Forestry Association (NCFA) is a private, nonprofit organization founded 106 years ago and is one of the oldest conservation organizations in the state. Its 4,000 members consist of forest managers, landowners, loggers, mill operators, educators and various others with business interests related to the forest products industry. All the association members share a common interest in the long-term health and productivity of the state’s forest resources and the industries they support. The association offers a variety of educational programs and resources for forestry professionals and the general public that promote responsible use and management of our state’s forest resources. The position is located in Raleigh, NC.Mission Statement: The North Carolina Forestry Association Ensures Healthy, Productive, and Sustainable Forests.Job DescriptionDirector of CommunicationsWe are seeking a highly creative, forward-thinking individual with extensive experience in communications, public relations, and/or marketing for the NCFA Director of Communications position. The Director of Communications will provide timely, relevant, and well-crafted communications to current and potential members of the NCFA, elected officials, and members of the public. The Director of Communications is responsible for managing a broad range of communications activities for NCFA including public relations and marketing, executive communications, print, social, and digital media, and promotion materials for major events. The director may also assist with other duties including representing NCFA at events and engaging with public and private stakeholders.Responsibilities include:Uphold and promote the NCFA mission.Manage public and media relations.Promote the organization and its programs across various media outlets including television, radio, print, social media, and internet.Manage all social media platforms and create social media campaigns to support the NCFA mission and promote NCFA programs.Manage digital and email marketing platform.Manage the development and distribution of all print communications including a quarterly magazine and promotion and marketing materials.Develop and manage a marketing strategy to effectively promote the organization and educate the public about key issues, services, and needs.Support the NCFA Executive Director with governmental relations and policy communications.Create evaluation strategies to measure the effectiveness of communications activities and tools.Perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.A proven track record with 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, and project management.Ability to be a team player who works well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.Strong work ethic with enthusiasm and willingness to work hard.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent editing and proofreading skills.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Excellent project management skills- ability to simultaneously work on fast turnaround and urgent assignments while also managing larger longer-term projects.Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign.
