The Senior Civil Designer, with some supervision from the Manager of Civil Engineering, will prepare site development plans and specifications for commercial and industrial sites in conformance to client requirements and local ordinances. The Senior Civil Designer will work with and advise other disciplines on site issues that may impact architectural development and building systems and develop criteria for sub-consultant services for review by the Manager of Civil Engineering.Essential Job Functions:With some assistance, review and/or establish project scope, civil budget, design approach and applicable constraints with the Manager of Civil Engineering, Project Manager, and/or client as appropriatePrepare feasibility studies and civil cost estimatesWith assistance, formulate design of civil systems including underground utilities, paving, grading, and drainage for various sized projectsDevelop site layout(s) in accordance with zoning and other applicable ordinances and requirementsWith assistance, edit or draft project specificationsPrepare working drawings for construction on CAD with support from department staff where applicableConduct field measuring and/or survey verification at project site and perform basic topographic surveying for minor projects.Review drawings for omissions, errors, overall quality, content accuracy, and compliance with standards and codesReview product submittals (shop drawings) for conformance with contract documents, specify action necessary for compliancePrepare project file updates, transmittals, letters, reports, and other project correspondencePerform necessary calculations and prepare supporting documentation.With Project Manager, attend meetings with governmental agencies as required for obtaining site plan approval (ability to address public and governmental groups in open meetings is essential)Coordinate project with other disciplines and advise of site/building system conflictsPrepare site plan submittal documents in accordance with local requirementsResearch and evaluate design options for consideration by senior engineer, Project Manager and/or clientPrepare and monitor project budgets for smaller, less complex projectsMonitor project schedules and work toward timely completion of assigned tasksDevelop cost and quantity estimatesVisit construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documentsPerform related duties as assignedEmployment Qualifications:Education:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related degreeEIT preferredExperience:7-10 years of related experience in site design and civil engineeringProficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and BluebeamKnowledge in Infraworks and BIM 360 a bonusKnowledge of roadway geometric design and state and federal environmental lawsProficiency in hydraulic and hydrology system designSince 1982, Ghafari Associates has taken a personal approach to highly technical projects in complex markets including: aviation, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, hospitality, K-12 and higher education.
