Job Description

Nemours is seeking a Casual Art Therapist (temporary position, grant-funded through 12/2024) to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE.

The Art Therapist works under the direction of, and in collaboration with, the primary Creative Arts Therapists, providing direct assessment and clinical interventions to patients and families in alignment with all Art Therapy competencies identified by the American Art Therapy Association and are credentialed by the ATCB (Art Therapy Credentials Board). Therapists support children, teens, and family members in the healthcare setting by providing interventions that promote ongoing medical and psychosocial goals. The Creative Arts Therapist utilizes evidence-based practice to plan, organize, and direct therapy interventions while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to provide trauma informed family centered care.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Cultivate clinical competency knowledge areas by maintaining board certification.

2. Demonstrates proficiency in functional art skills and maintains knowledge of art styles and repertoire relevant to the pediatric population.

3. Demonstrate outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) and effectively navigate fast paced, demanding environments while maintaining high level of customer service.

4. Hold strong competence in creative arts and child life philosophy, ensuring alignment with departmental mission and vision.

5. Serve as an interdisciplinary expert in the psychosocial care and development of children of all ages while individualizing care for each patient.

6. Actively promote a department culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion and represent all ages and abilities.

7. Remain up to date and current with all departmental education and Nemours mandatory requirements.

8. Assess and prioritize child/family needs for art therapy interventions to address emotional, social, mental, and physical conditions that they are experiencing in the hospital setting.

9. Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree

Must obtain Registered Art Therapist (ATR) within 6 months of hire date and maintain board certification after credentialing with no lapse.

Minimum of 3 months of creative arts experience working with children in a medical, behavioral health or other therapeutic setting required.
