About the role

Total Wine & More is looking for an Art Director of Email & Social to join our Marketing onsite in Bethesda, MD. Please note: we are an in-office culture, and this is not a remote work opportunity. You will lead design development for these two digital channels within our marketing dedicated creative team. But that’s not all… you’ll also have a hand in creating our seasonal design strategies and the look & feel of our brand across all channels. Part story teller, part design wiz, part strategist, part art director, part manager and all around great team player. Internally, your title will be Creative Manager. You will report to the Senior Creative Manager.

You will

• Absorb briefs, understand audience differentiation, build vision and drive execution that effectively drives results
• Provide hands on design for a minimum of 30% of the digital assets that pass through the email and social media creative team
• Participate in and/or design select creative strategy programs to support seasonal, new product launches and marketing initiatives that support all business channels (print & digital)
• Stay abreast of industry standards and design trends. Help define best practices and propose up to date solutions to help drive the business forward
• Manage a team of two designers providing creative direction, effective critiques, project management, day-to day leadership and personal growth opportunities
• Partner with internal stakeholders, including marketing partners, copywriters, production team members and other designers to deliver great creative and successful results as a team
• Work with outside resources to create select projects, guiding brand cohesion and completion of work in a timely manner
• Effectively manage (up, down & out) work in progress, creative intent, team status, related issues and solutions with regularity
• Proactively define, improve and record best practices and process within the creative team

You will come with:

• A strong sense of design with proven history designing for email (which will comprise 70% of your work) and social media
• A degree in Art, Graphic Design, Digital Design or similar and/or equivalent work experience with demonstrated excellence
• 7-10 years design experience in an internal or agency setting with focus on marketing communications
• 3-5 years of experience managing direct report/s of permanent employees in a creative setting (e.g., Performance Reviews, IDPs, Goal Setting, Developing, Promoting, Corrective Actions, Hiring/Terminating)
• Previous experience working with established brand standards
• Ability to balance multiple projects and define priorities in an fast-paced environment with changing demands and aggressive deadlines
• Experience planning and directing photo shoots (lifestyle and product)
• Proficiency in: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects); Interactive design, animation and storyboarding; UX/UI design principles & best practices; Sketch, Adobe XD, Mac OS; Microsoft Office; Creative Project Management Tools (Workfront a plus); Figma a plus
• Readiness to work 4 days/week at our Bethesda, Maryland headquarters with option to work the 5th day from home
