The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Sacramento Valley/Central California, (CAIR-SV/CC) is hiring a Communications Manager to create and implement a comprehensive media and public relations strategy that capitalizes on CAIR-SVCC's expertise and enhances CAIR's image within key constituencies.
This position offers a unique opportunity to join the management team at one of the nation's largest CAIR chapters at a time in history where the American Muslim community is facing both incredible challenges and opportunities.

Pay Range:
$67,000-$71,000/annually commensurate with skills and experience
Reports to : Deputy Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement an integrated, organization wide strategic media and public relations plan that will allow CAIR-SVCC to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted audiences, including the media, public officials and key influencersServe as lead point person on media interactions (editors, reporters, producers and other media professionals) and actively cultivate and manage media relationshipsManage CAIR-SVCC's social media vision and strategyOversee strategic initiatives to target and engage activists, allies, and Muslim community members across all digital channelsDraft and edit all external communications including press statements/releases, fact sheets, e-mails, e-newsletters and action alertsPitch and secure stories to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance including CAIR-SVCC's programs, special events, public announcements, and other projectsReview, edit, and proofread CAIR-CA publications including the annual report and other various reportsServes as situation management and crisis communication leader and updates organizational crisis management plan as necessaryManage and speak at various press conferences and events; prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting materialManage and maintain CAIR-SVCC website with updated contentRepresent CAIR-SVCC through public speaking and community engagementsSupervise Communications team including Social Media Manager in day-to-day tasks and projectsConduct media trainings for staff and community membersQUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred -- in the field of Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field3-5 years of work experience in a communications/public relations role
Experience working with media as an on-the-record spokesperson
Ability to delegate and supervise department staffExperience developing and implementing communications strategiesFoundational understanding of design and visual elements and how to create simple yet effective graphics is necessaryExperience managing and writing copy for social media is necessaryFamiliarity in communicating with the Muslim community is a plusExperience with Canva, Adobe photoshop/In-Design/Illustrator, or other graphic design programs is a plusExcellent writing/editing and verbal communication skillsHigh energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levelSelf-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiativesExperience working with the American Muslim CommunityCommitment to social justice and passion for CAIR's mission and values.Experience supervising and delegating responsibilities effectively.
