Position SummaryThe Director of Marketing Services is an accomplished science writer who creates, develops, and executes comprehensive, integrated, marketing and communications plans and identifies strategic initiatives for the Department of Neuroscience. Reports directly to the Chair of the Department.

Job Description

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesWorks directly with the Chair to provide support for all written communications from the Chair's office.Works with faculty and Department members to communicate their science in effective ways, including providing support for editing manuscripts and grant applications. Creates, develops, and executes comprehensive, integrated, marketing and communications plans.Utilizing research and knowledge of target audiences, develops key messages to showcase the Department's strengths and finds innovative methods to get messages out to target audiences.Produces internal and external communications on Department discoveries and accomplishments.Leads strategic planning and analysis for communications and marketing efforts that advance the Department's mission.Creates and produces print and electronic marketing materials for departmental events, job postings and other research opportunities.Develops written communications for prize nominations and grant submissions.Manages communication platforms including newsletter, social media, website.Performs other duties as assigned.Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in a related field such as the life sciences (biology/neuroscience), journalism, communications or English with expertise in neuroscience.Experience in science writing with two years of experience in managing communication strategies.Demonstrated skills as a writer and editor with knowledge of print and electronic formats and copy editing standards.Background in science writing and communication.Strong organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills.Excellent communication skills, with expertise in communicating neuroscience research to diverse audiences.Will gain a thorough understanding of the scientific research and education missions being pursued by the Department.Experience working with diverse populations.Demonstrated understanding of CMS, newsletter, and social media platforms.Must be highly organized with extreme concern for detail and accuracyMust have ability to generate effective solutions to evolving demands.Must be able to innovate and think creatively.Critical judgment and decision-making skills.Knowledge of higher education issues related to recruitment of faculty and postdoctoral fellows, diversity and climate and culture issues in higher education.Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field with five years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.

Salary Range$73,700.00 - $125,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
