In January 2021, the iconic brand was relaunched under new ownership as EBONY Media Group, a diversified multi-platform media company. THE ROLE:

The Creative Director at EBONY is an entrepreneurial visionary who lives and breathe culture and is passionate about EBONY's legacy, its archives, and its commitment to delivering excellence to the global Black community. Leading artistic vision and strategy across Editorial, Marketing, Social, Partnerships, Events and Sales teams, this person will concept, develop, and pitch creative ideas, driving their vision through production, post-production, distribution, and activation. The Creative Director will create a unique and exciting vision for EBONY, shaping its look, feel and tone, while ensuring brand alignment across all platforms. The Creative Director will oversee the internal creative team as well as a network of freelance designers and copywriters as needed and leverage the power and authenticity of the EBONY voice to create first-in-class assets and products that are forward-thinking, socially conscious, and culturally relevant. RESPONSIBILITIES:Creative Strategy & Artistic Direction:

Champion the strategic repositioning of the EBONY visual brand identity, while still maintaining the brand's core values and missionSet the creative vision for the brand and implement it consistently across all touchpoints, marketing, PR, experiential/activations, editorial, social, sales and brand partnershipsDevelop and inspire creative concepts and campaigns that will elevate the brand and inspire the current and next generation of EBONY readersCollaborate with internal and external stakeholders to produce content that tells the brand story and supports marketing initiativesStrong creative point of view that can be translated across departments, channels, and mediums

Visionary Leadership:

Lead and grow a talented creative team, inspiring and mentoring them to reach their full potential and fostering an innovative, collaborative cultureLead a team of internal and external creative resources with eye for high quality, on-brand outputsProvide mentorship, resources, and training for a collaborative and innovative work environment

Artistic Direction:

Conceptualize, develop, and pitch creative ideas, driving vision from production to distribution and activationUphold a high standard of creative excellence in all brand materialsInnovate on-set creative development for visually stunning video and visual contentOversee execution of sold creative concepts, ensuring quality output within deadlines and budgetsRemain current on creative and design trends to continually evolve the brand

Performance / Excellence:Evaluate quality of creative assets, adherence to brand guidelines, and team productivityMonitor adherence to brand guidelines, audience response, engagement rates, and customer feedbackAssess production quality of video and visual assets, considering audience engagement metricsMonitor consistency of brand messaging and visual identity across all touch points.Qualifications:

10+ years of hands-on creative experience spanning editorial, design, events, and branded content, with a strong visual portfolioA history working with brands and leading creative teams to create successful, culturally relevant contentStrong understanding and experience in the on-set production process (pre/production/post) and experience working closely with directors and producersDeep knowledge and interest in digital media, social media, content & technology.Strong grasp of brand strategyPlayer and coach mentality - ability to set the creative vision but also execute against it. Strong leadership and team management skills to inspire, mentor, and guide the creative team effectivelyEBONY is an incredibly fast-paced and creatively demanding environment and creatives will have to balance many projects at once with tight deadlines and production schedules.EAST Coast Preffered
