Summary:
Telecommunications specialists are experts in analog and digital telecommunication systems and networks. They oversee the installation and repairs of equipment and systems, monitor the interactions between computer networks, conduct diagnostic tests, and implement upgrades and modifications to telecommunication equipment and devices.
Essential Functions:
Establishes communications systems by programming voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipmentPlans network installations by studying technical specifications and preparing an installation schematicInventories and prioritizes Telco network and equipment repairsEstablishes telco networks by programming features, establishing interfaces and integrations, following industry standards, and activating remote access toolsVerifies service by testing and re-programming circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifying and correcting problems, and conferring with engineersDocuments telco network by recording configuration diagrams and programmingAnalyzes telco network performance and prepares and presents reports based on that analysisMaintains telco network by troubleshooting and repairing outages, testing network backup procedures, and updating documentationMaintains customer rapport by listening and answering questions and resolving concerns in a timely mannerMaintains a safe work environment by following standards and policiesUpdates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publicationsJob Requirements
Associate's degree in computer science, telecommunications, information technology, or similar field preferredCisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) preferred3-4 years experience as a telecommunications specialist, IT support, or similar
