Description

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for completing custom design and initial drafting of Graham's original equipment and systems designs. Utilizing CAD software, in-house analysis tools and industry-specific design software, the Designer will complete modeling of parts and assemblies, and begin creating drawings with appropriate dimensioning and tolerances. A thorough review of the project specifications, customer requirements, and all other project materials appropriate to successfully meeting the customer's performance requirements, and Graham's safety and quality requirements, will be required of the Designer before and during degeneration of a mature design. Additionally, national and international code requirements, material properties, manufacturing processes, supply chain constraints, tool design and cost of production must also all be taken into account during the design phase. Projects usually include modifications to existing product and may include clean sheet designs with oversight by more experienced Designers.

Requirements

• Lead the 3D modeling phase of a project that consists of a modification to an existing product and support the 3D modeling phase of a clean sheet design. This work must be completed to meet customer, technical, manufacturability, safety and quality requirements within budgetary and schedule constraints.

• Function as part of the project team to create part models and assembly models that are used for engineering analysis and drawing creation. This will include oversight by more experienced Designers as appropriate.

• Work with the manufacturing team to optimize and troubleshoot as necessary the production of project design deliverables, both in-house and via 3rd-party vendors.

• Develop working knowledge of "design for manufacture and assembly" principles based on Graham's internal SOPs and quality systems.

• Check the accuracy of manufacturing drawing packages from solid model geometry that will meet the technical and manufacturability requirements of the project, as well as any application national or international design standards required.

• Develop dimensioning and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) expertise.

• Develop knowledge of Graham's manufacturing processes.

• Work with project team and manufacturing group during manufacturing phase of the project to disposition non-compliant parts.

• Develop and update as necessary internal design standards and specifications.

• Gain an understanding of applicable ASME, HEI, TEMA and AISI standards and keep up-to-date on any changes to those standards in order to maintain designs to current standards and regulations.

• Handle confidential information with discretion.

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Must be willing to work overtime as required.
