is seeking a Senior Designer to join our team in our Las Vegas, Nevada office. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Selects, recommends, performs, and directs procedures and preparation of preliminary and final designAssist in coordination with other in-house disciplines and sub-consultant servicesPrepares plan documents and supporting design calculationsDemonstrates knowledge and application of engineering principles and completes fundamental calculationsAble to delegate CAD assignments and determine methods and proceduresIndependently performs assignments on basic design elementsProvides training and coordination with CAD Technicians and Engineering InternsAssist in meeting deadlines, budgets, and completing projects on schedulePrepare grading designs, plan, and profile of roadways and utilitiesPrepare complete civil construction documents/improvement plan setsReview and understand jurisdictional code requirements and implement in the designPrepare construction cost estimates/quantity takeoffsPerform Quality Assurance/Quality Control of work productAssist in the submittal of project documentAssist in jurisdictional coordination, response to comments, and preparation of submittal documentsMaintain open communication with Project Manager and design teamRequired Skills
Able to prepare grading plans with little direction from supervisor or team leaderUnderstands drainage, water, sewer design elementsUnderstand surveying mappingCompetent technical skills required to complete basic engineering tasksProactively pursues design solutionsExercises sound independent judgementStrong understanding of local and agency standards, codes, and policiesStrong understanding of client requirementsAbility to estimate man-hours for specific tasksAdvanced knowledge of CAD softwareAble to identify and obtain necessary data to complete designAble to maintain organized CAD drawings and draws with precisionIntermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and able to write, send, and process emailAble to maintain a task list and set the priority of tasks to achieve project milestones and deadlinesAble to write justification letters for elements of designs and submittal packagesRequired Experience
3 years of experience as a designer5 years of experience in CAD draftingHigh School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years relevant experience, OR;Associate's Degree and 3+ years relevant experienceLand Development experience a plusResidential Engineering a plus
