The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Agora Institute is seeking a Communications Manager to develop and manage all external and internal communications and communications-related activities for the Institute. This position will manage our Dialogue and Debate program and be responsible for content development and program coordination. In coordination with the Institute Director and Managing Director, this position will develop and implement all institute communications, including but not limited to event production, branding, marketing, PR and media relations, and content creation for website, media, social media, newsletters and other publications, and other efforts. This position will coordinate closely on many of these activities with University Communications and the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) Communications teams. Given the very public nature of the institute and its importance to both KSAS and the University as a major strategic priority, this position requires a professional with significant expertise across all of the marketing and communications functions as described.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Communications and Marketing Strategy

Lead and oversee the SNF Agora Dialogue and Debate program to include content and curriculum development, identification of topics and speakers and moderating debates serving as an expert in debate theory and relevant topics.

Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that positions the institute for broader public reach; liaise with University Communications, KSAS Communications, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in development of this plan.

Oversee planning and development of communications and marketing materials for institute-hosted events, including but not limited to conferences, symposia, town halls, and curricular and co-curricular initiatives.

Coordinate communications efforts with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation communications team, and provide regular updates.

Support SNF Agora faculty and fellows with their strategic communications needs for events and/or programs produced in their SNF Agora capacity.

Implement communication campaigns and strategies on behalf of the institute.

Serve on various committees within the institute and at the university related to communications strategy.

Content Development and Execution

Manage all event content produced by the institute (faculty-authored reports, op-eds, institute case studies, etc.), including providing editorial and production support.

Develop, write, publish, and otherwise coordinate content for the institute’s debates and events.

Develop, prepare, and place promotional materials for print, broadcast and digital media, including feature stores, columns, pitches and news releases; liaise with University Communications on same.

Coordinate internal communications outreach across the university, including with JHU Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) and JHU Government, Community and Economic Partnerships (GCEP).

Coordinate external communications with institute partners on collaborative research and other collaborative projects related to the debate program and all institute events.

Coordinate with DAR on the development of stewardship communications, including writing original content and reviewing DAR-created content.

Oversee hiring of any outside content providers/editors, including but not limited to graphic designers, videographers and photographers, and editors; review and provide feedback on their work (including copyedits).

Develop talking points and/or remarks as needed for senior leadership in preparation for major public events, external and internal meetings, other; liaise with the President’s Office, University Communications and KSAS Communications in support of these efforts.

Oversee staff, student workers, and volunteers in support of all event and communication efforts.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Website Management and Social M edia

Exercise responsibility for all event and debate content, including creating original content and regularly updating existing content, sharing content produced by institute faculty and fellows, and marketing and disseminating institute events to the broader community.

Develop, write, publish, and otherwise coordinate content for the institute’s social media channels and carry out elements of the strategic communications plan specific to social media for all events.

Media and Branding

Exercise responsibility for all event content on the institute website, including creating original content and regularly updating existing content, sharing content produced by institute faculty and fellows, and marketing and disseminating institute events to the broader community.

Develop, write, publish, and otherwise coordinate content for the institute’s social media channels and carry out elements of the strategic communications plan specific to social media.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field.

Five years related experience.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in high quality writing and editing, working successfully on deadline and designing and implementing communications plans and strategies.

Experience working in/around government, politics, policy or advocacy preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for public-facing engagement.

Ability to work effectively and independently with highest levels of faculty, staff, leadership and others.

In support of academic, business, research and/or development activities and operations, providing high level administrative oversight, coordination and advice desired.

Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects at once, while setting and meeting demanding deadlines.

Starting Salary Range: $72,600 - $99,800 - $127,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
