Performs a variety of writing, design, and project management tasks while using good judgment and strong interpersonal skills to plan and execute marketing/communications strategies. Research, write, and edit internal communication documents or emails to ensure consistency in messaging throughout the organization. Work to build awareness and use of Student Affairs’ communication vehicles, such as dashboards, blog, emails, video, social media, document storage, printed materials. Create content for staff events and meetings, including key documents, presentations, and talking points and ensure they are delivered through appropriate channels. Utilizes traditional and electronic publishing technologies to produce communications that implement project objectives.The internal communications and events specialist is part of the Strategic Initiatives team that supports the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. The person in this position will support the successful execution of a variety of targeted and mass internal communications strategies and events, such as leadership and all-staff meetings, new employee orientation, weekly division-wide newsletter, web and social content creation, etc. This position also supports a variety of special projects to improve the employee experience. The person in this role should have strong interpersonal skills, maintain a professional demeanor, pay close attention to detail, possess strong project management skills, and meet deadlines.**About Student Affairs:****Student Affairs**is comprised of nearly 20 departments focused on supporting student well-being and success with the ultimate goal of assisting students in discovery their passion, people, and purpose. Develops and executes staff-focused marketing/communication plans by utilizing traditional and electronic publishing technologies.2. Plans staff events and meetings, including coordinating agendas, scheduling presentations, and developing accompanying content, such as presentations, talking points, and promotional and printed materials.3. Develops and communicates information on various projects to department staff.4. Responsible for monitoring effectiveness of marketing/communication tactics and adjusting communication plans as necessary.5. Collaborates with internal departments on strategic projects and staff events.6. Writes and proofreads staff communications.7. Develops and monitors social media content.8. Manages the research and development of content for publication.9. Develops and adheres to project timelines.10. Ensures that distributed material is accurate and timely.11. May perform other related technical duties as assigned.12. May develop and execute other strategic and HR-related projects.**Problem Solving:**Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks. Works under limited supervision.**Minimum Qualifications**Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.**Preferences**Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Sprout Social, Qualtrics, and Asana; strong writing, content editing, photography, web design, graphic design, audio and video production, social media management, and oral presentation skills are preferred.**Type** Benefited Staff**Special Instructions Summary****Additional Information**The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems (“URS”).
