Organizational Overview:

The San Diego North County Economic Development Council (SDNEDC) is a 28-year-old economic development organization serving the northern third of San Diego County. SDNEDC works with both public and private sectors to strategically grow the economic base north of SR 56. With a weekly newsletter reaching 3,500+ subscribers, an Instagram account with 1,000+ followers, and a LinkedIn account with 2,200+ followers, SDNEDC uses its audience to promote regional prosperity, current business news, and events. The organization’s current budget is approximately $500,000 and is comprised of three staff members (two full-time and one part-time), and a board of directors that represents most of North County’s major employers and incorporated cities.

SDNEDC’s mission is to build a stronger North County economy through regional collaboration and leadership. This is achieved through the following three tiers of economic development:

MARKET North San Diego County as a place to invest and do business.

RETAIN and expand North County talent and employment

CONNECT employers and educators to strengthen North County’s workforce development system.

Job Description:

We're looking for an extremely organized and creative individual to join the SDNEDC team as the Marketing & Events Coordinator. This role will support the COO in executing the Council’s marketing strategies and event coordination. An ideal applicant will have solid understanding of social media and email marketing, with experience in or willingness to learn event planning, to promote both San Diego’s North County and the SDNEDC. This is currently an in-person, hands-on role, where strategic and creative thinking will serve candidates well. This role has high visibility in the community, providing an exceptional opportunity for an emerging marketing professional looking to make their mark on North County.

Currently the role is:

16-20 hours a week. Possibility of expanding to full-time in 2025.

9 am - 1 pm

4-5 days/week in person in San Marcos, CA

Compensation Range: $18-$21 per hour

About you:

You are enthusiastic about helping strategize, design, and implement cost-effective marketing plans both for a non-profit association as well as a sub-region home to more than a million people and 540,000 jobs.

You're extremely organized and detail oriented. Strong editing skills are a must.

You love planning and managing events (or want to learn how).

You love interacting with people both online and in-person.

You have strong time management skills, able to prioritize tasks effectively to keep multiple projects moving in the same direction.

You have a strong familiarity with social media and graphic design tools and have a track record of creatively using them to promote a product, service and/or events.

Essential Duties:

Marketing

Compile North County and SDNEDC investor news for SDNEDC’s weekly newsletter. Duties include skimming assigned news sources, flagging articles for inclusion, providing summary of key points, and capturing images for inclusion.

Assist COO to maintain SDNEDC marketing collateral, materials, and platforms.

Support the implementation of social media campaigns designed to portray a narrative of San Diego North County’s economic development story.

Collaborate with CEO and COO to manage SDNEDC’s website (WordPress), keeping content up-to-date and fresh.

Collaborate CEO and COO to assist with SOCAL (www.socalworkforce.org) including updating pages, making changes as needed.

Collaborate with regional partners, including but not limited to chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, academic entities, and private sector organizations to promote activities, employment opportunities, and events that enhance North County’s reputation as a place to do business.

Explore additional ways to leverage your marketing skills and background to create value for the organization and the San Diego North County region.

Events

Assist with event coordination and marketing for 2 to 3 major events (average 300+ attendees) and 3 to 5 smaller events (average 30+ attendees) annually.

Collaborate with CEO and COO to brainstorm new programs and events to support North County employers and talent.

Administrative

General office administrative tasks to support CEO/COO, including taking minutes at monthly board and executive committee meetings.

Employment Qualifications:

Creativity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working within a small, dynamic team

Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Familiarity with Mail Chimp or other email marketing software platform

Familiarity with WordPress

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

Experience with Canva (or other graphic design software)

Marketing, graphic design, or journalism experience (including relevant coursework or internships)

Event planning experience or a willingness to learn

Miscellaneous administrative tasks (10-20%)

Knowledge of social media platforms, current trends, community engagement tactics for business, and various analytics tools

Ability to manage tasks, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing needs with attention to detail

Ability to work cross-functionally with other members of the team to achieve organizational and regional goals

Education in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field preferred, with an associate or bachelor's degree as a plus

Employment Status:

PART TIME: non-exempt, $18 - $22 per hour, DOE

The position is 16-20 hours per week in person in San Marcos’ North City offices.

Benefits include 40 hours of annual paid PTO , 1 week of sick time, company contribution to SIMPLE IRA, 9 paid- vacation days and parking permit. The Council does not offer health insurance for part-time employees.

Accountability: This position reports directly to the CEO of SDNEDC and will support both the CEO and COO.

At Will Employment: employment with SDNEDC is considered at will. This means that both employees and SDNEDC have the right to terminate employment at any time, with or without advance notice, and with or without cause.
