Digital Brand Journalist (Remote)

Location: RemoteJob Type: ContractCompensation Range: $45 - 50 per hourOur client in Houston, Texas, is looking for a Digital Brand Journalist to join their in-house creative studio and be an integral member of the "newsroom" team!The Digital Brand Journalist is an integral member of the Newsroom team. They report to the Senior Editor and support the company's efforts to provide engaging, informative news articles and thought leadership content for external and internal audiences.To fill this role, we're looking for an expert writer who can help us tell our story across our digital ecosystem. A journalistic mindset, a thoughtful editorial eye, a collaborative spirit and a history of successful content creation for large companies and major brands are key to success in this role.The person in this role will be responsible for researching and writing content, suggesting story ideas, becoming an expert on their subject matter focus (their "beat"), and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to refine their work and ensure accuracy and compliance.This is a REMOTE ongoing, long-term contract role with full-time hours (30-40 hours/week), healthcare benefits available for purchase, PTO, and 401k. Responsibilities:Write digital content in the form of news and educational articles, video scripts, newsletters, social media posts and more for internal and external audiences.Conduct research and interviews to learn more about communication needs, developments and perceptions related to their assigned beat.Work closely with the editorial team to ensure delivery of best-in-class content.Develop strong relationships with company subject matter experts, work closely with team leaders throughout the organization.Work closely with the digital creative team on infographics, page layouts and so on.Respond to edits, suggestions and revisions with flexibility and diplomacy, while working to maintain editorial quality and accuracy.Identify emerging trends and timely content that is relevant for the brand.Effectively manage multiple strategic content projects.Leverage materials from other lines of business within the brand to provide audience with relevant and timely content.Provide substantiation for all content claims, for use by legal/compliance teams.Qualifications:A BA degree in journalism, communications, English, or a similar field.A minimum of five years' experience in journalism, brand content strategy, copywriting, and/or communications.Experience with large brands, agency work, and/or digital publishing.Newsroom experience is a plus.Experience in industries related to oil, gas and energy is a plus.Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience developing short- and long-form content across both internal and external communications.Excellent storytelling skills, impeccable grammar and an ability to write for a variety of platforms and audiences.Ability to research, plan, write and edit copy on deadline.Ability to interface with clients and interview subject matter experts to understand complex topics and distill key messages.A discerning and adaptable editorial style, with the ability to adopt and master brand guidelines to effectively relay company messaging through high-quality digital content that resonates with diverse audiences.
