What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will have broad responsibility for shaping Amgen’s corporate communications strategy encompassing corporate brand, narrative and reputation across internal and external stakeholders, channels, and platforms.

Responsible for leading Amgen’s Enterprise Communications and Strategy team, which encompasses global external communications (media relations, social media, web); global internal communications; leadership communications (CEO support and senior-level leadership meetings); and corporate brand and reputation.

Lead a team of 25 communications professionals accountable for communicating Amgen’s mission, strategy, performance, science, corporate citizenship, and impact on patients.

Reports to the Head of Corporate Affairs and be a member of the Corporate Affairs Senior. Leadership Team.

Works directly with the CEO, Head of Corp Affairs and CEO direct reports on formulating and delivering the Amgen story to all stakeholders, internal and external

Works in close partnership with functional partners, such as Finance, Investor Relations, Regulatory, Human Resources and Law to ensure communications are consistent and balanced with broad Amgen objectives.

Represents Amgen with high-level external stakeholders as needed.

Direct partnering and collaboration with Corporate Affairs leaders on priority Corporate, global, and regional communication initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree & 8 years of corporate affairs or corporate communications experience OR

Master’s degree & 10 years of corporate affairs or corporate communications experience OR

Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of corporate affairs or corporate communications experience AND

8 years of direct managerial experience. Previous experience managing other managers

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience developing and executing innovative and impactful corporate communications strategies that align with the organization's vision, mission, and values

Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of corporate communications initiatives

Experience in managing complex and sensitive issues and crises, and providing strategic counsel to senior leaders

Ability to move with speed and agility; can foresee potential issues, manage crises, and leverage opportunities to enhance the organization's reputation and achieve its objectives

Stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence across all levels and functions of the organization

High degree of integrity, professionalism, and ethical judgment

Experience with editing, scripts, draft written announcements, letters, video scripts and briefing documents, for one or more CEOs of major publicly traded healthcare enterprises or significantly sized subsidiaries

Ability to manage and interface effectively with CEO Staff level stakeholders and negotiate and synthesize messages to ensure corporate narrative is consistent

Cross-functional and line-management leadership skills

Ability to represent the organization well with high-level external stakeholders

Ability to lead and inspire a diverse and distributed team of corporate communications professionals

Executive communication and presentation skills

Knowledge of and effective ability to use corporate affairs channels of communications
