University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Assistant to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of the use of the Tele-sitter softwareMaintains visual observation at all timesVerbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient roomImmediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistanceDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the appropriate care to the patient population based on the patients individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RNParticipates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignmentArranges meal break times with nurse and informs nurse prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observationProvides patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinionsDemonstrates behaviors in line with Service ExcellenceSeeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or othersParticipates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issuesAssures patient environment safetySeeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to Charge NurseDemonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programsCommunicates and interacts with patients, visitors, and other health care professionals in an effective manner and maintains positive, cooperative relationshipsImplements the plan of care under the direction of the registered nurse, providing appropriate care with regard to patient's condition and ageObserves patients for changes in physical condition throughout their stay, and reports to registered nurseAssembles equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by nurses or physiciansPerforms simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as assigned (i.e. enemas, collecting specimens, preoperative preparation of skin)Performs computer functions within scope of role as defined by the individual unitImplements measures to prevent potential patient problems/complications and reports unusual incidents in consultation with the registered nurseMaintains patient privacy and confidentialityPractices standard precautions in infection control in accordance with institutional policyAssists staff during emergencies, within the scope of practicePerforms other projects and tasks as assignedParticipates in unit staff meetings and in-servicesComplies with annual competency review guidelinesIncorporates the principles of Service Leadership to ensure positive patient/customer relationsAdheres to UIHC policies regarding personal conduct, including: follows established leadership, remaining responsive to instruction and coaching from supervisors and meeting the standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctualityPercent of Time:

60%-100% - 24-40 hours per weekSchedule:
