The intimate nature of our staff and the broad depth and scope of programming require all staff members to constantly be aware of and support other departments in order to achieve organizational success each year.The Technical Director is a skilled theatre professional who is highly knowledgeable in all aspects of scenic construction. The TD should also be familiar with lighting, AV, and sound and must navigate the multifaceted work environment with an ambitious production calendar. The TD is responsible for overseeing all technical and scenic operations of Theatre SilCo productions including scenic construction, props, lighting, and sound. The TD will maintain all theatrical spaces and equipment including enforcing safety, efficiency, and effective operations. The Technical Director works alongside the Production Manager and reports to the Associate Artistic Director. The TD is responsible for all the technical and staging requirements of any production/educational program/tour/class/etc.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage and supervise the technical staff and volunteersDevelop and manage the season production budget in collaboration with the Producing Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director, and Production ManagerManage and supervise the facilities (office, storage space, performance spaces, lobby, green room, dressing rooms, lab spaces, shops, etc)Oversee and execute building of scenic elements/etcPRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES:Managing each show budget in collaboration with the Associate Artistic Director and Production ManagerHiring and supervising production staff in collaboration with the Associate Artistic Director and Production ManagerSupervising technical rehearsals in tandem with stage management, director, Production Manager, and Associate Artistic DirectorScheduling and supervising strikeConsidering the safety of those in our employ and our constituents, account for and organization of production related inventory in collaboration with Production ManagerDetermine technical need for all Theatre SilCo productions including schedules, budget, hiring, etcApprove designs with regard to safety, schedule, feasibility, and budgetMaintenance of productionsDrafting and shop drawingsTrack expenditures and execute purchasesManage/service/maintenance of production related inventory for both facilities and shopADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:Creating and managing a plan for capital investments with the Production ManagerReporting and managing production budgets with the Production ManagerEnsure visiting companies and individuals follow facility guidelines and agreementsMeet weekly with Associate Artistic DirectorEDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING RESPONSIBILITIES:Works directly with the Associate Artistic Director and teachers on meeting the needs of the Educational production requirements in collaboration with the Production ManagerProvides any support needed to educational programmingHEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:Working with the Production Manager to oversee production health and safety by receiving and approving risk assessments and production plans and signing off the stage before technical rehearsalsWorking with the operations and technical supervisors on health and safety to ensure policy and procedures are up-to-date and adhered toARTISTIC ENGAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:Inspires a professional and ambitious approach to presenting high-quality theatreSUMMARY OF ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:Transfers of rehearsals to main stages (and all duties tied)Close outs (strike, storage space, reconciliation of payments/reimbursements/petty cash)Works with management team to support day-to-day operation of Theatre SilCo facilitiesManage and oversee all production aspects of events at multi-purpose performing arts facilityManage personnel during load-in/load-out, rehearsals, and performancesManage Wardrobe personnel during rehearsal and performances in conjunction with Wardrobe Supervisor and Production MangerAs it pertains to rentals, develop, implement, mange, and document all production labor for event and facility budgetsManagement of extensive list of theatrical vendor relationships, including contract maintenance and licensing and permitting authoritiesDevelopment and implementation of maintenance and repair schedules for all theatrical technical systems in the facilityAssist in the development and implementation of venue guidelines, policies, and procedures for delivery of services by the production department and other facility needsWork with Associate Artistic Director and Office Manager on managing venue capital expenditure projectsParticipate in venue site visits and coordinate needs as requiredProvide an estimate and final settlement paperwork for every event as pertains to rentals/etcAttend all relevant meetings, functions, and discussionsCommunicate regularly and provide other departments with production informationHolding overall responsibility for back stage operations and fire safetyOTHER DUTIES:All staff will hold the occasional front of house duties to broaden staffs presence with the communityOther duties assigned by Producing Artistic Director and Associate Artistic DirectorGENERAL/ORGANIZATIONAL: These competencies are to be demonstrated by everyone in employ at Theatre SilCo. Accurately accounting for expenditures is vital to staying within the production budget.REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have experience in a professional theatre company setting as a Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director, or Scenic Shop Lead. Candidates must possess exceptional organizational, written, and office administration. Superior skills in verbal communication, time management, and interpersonal skills are a must. Other attributes must include confidentiality, collaboration, and being a team player. The successful candidate must minimally have a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or Theatre Production.
