Eat Real nourishes the future of American school children by putting real food on the table at school, at home, and in local and national policy. Our award-winning K-12 certification program provides foodservice leaders with the framework and guidance they need to make their school menus delicious, nutritious, and planet-sustaining. Alongside our community of food system advocates, chefs, and parents, we spread the word about the power and urgency of serving real food at every meal. And we leverage our unique vantage point to drive system change, advocating for healthier policies and higher food standards at the local, state, and national level so every child can look forward to a healthy future.

As of 2023, Eat Real’s certification program includes over 600 schools across the country, helping make up to 129 million delicious, nutritious meals accessible for 360,000 students. Our community-driven K-12 program and certification model helped our participating districts remove up to 1.5M pounds of sugar from their menus, add up to 7.1M plant-based entrees, and sustainably source up to 645,000 lbs of produce in the 2022-23 school year alone.

THE ROLE

The Director of Marketing will bring marketing knowledge, tactics and tech from best-in-class startups to serve the cause of putting real food on the table for our nation’s kids. Between establishing and maintaining our integrated annual calendar, defining our segments and lifecycles, hacking culture through social prowess, and finding new ways to drive fundraising, this person will pioneer a modern, creative, and brand-led model of nonprofit marketing.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Integrated Marketing Programming

•Confirm and develop audience profiles to make them insightful, data-driven, and actionable

•Work with peers to co-create annual strategy that establishes Marketing in service of Program, Recruiting, and Fundraising goals

•Find creative ways to break through with our brand and message, driving exponential gains in our sub list, follower count, impressions, and community donations

•Wield brand awareness through partnerships and owned channels to establish Eat Real as the premier school food and food systems change nonprofit

Marketing Operations and Processes

•Define and refine the entire Marketing Ops process, from annual planning all the way through content concepting, approvals, posting and analytics

•Dial in cross-functional strategy, team reviews, and CEO involvement to deliver engaging, culturally relevant, high-performing social content as efficiently as possible

Team Stewardship and Marketing Org Design

•Collaborate with Eat Real executive team on the direction of the organization, communication cascade to Board and team, and cross-functional projects like annual strategic planning

•Design the Eat Real marketing team from the ground up, defining the most agile, excellent, and cost-effective mix of FTEs, consultants, and creatives to achieve our brand awareness, access, advocacy, and fundraising goals

•Direct and develop team members to grow in their roles and their careers

REQUIREMENTS

•10+ years experience in Marketing, startup experience preferred

COMPENSATION

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $110,000-132,000. The actual base salary will vary based on factors including market and individual qualifications, objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Eat Real is a 100% remote environment based in California. Must be able to work remotely. Preference for Bay Area or CA location. Work schedule is flexible with availability during standard business hours expected as well as flexibility for evenings or weekend hours for special events and meetings, as needed. Ability to travel as needed; driver’s license and ability to lift up to fifty pounds required.
