This position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications and requires close collaboration with the Public Relations and Communications Director.

The Marketing and Advertising Director will champion the creation of consistent, compelling brand stories and experiences across marketing and advertising channels that help provide an integrated visitor experience and drive conversions, revenue, and engagement. This person answers key questions such as how the Museum's mission and work are communicated to diverse audiences; how to provide integrated brand interactions, before, during, and after - and even separate from - their visit; and how to create deeper, two-way relationships by inviting visitors to participate in the conversation. The role requires innovative thought leadership and a strong visitor-focused approach.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications and requires close collaboration with the Public Relations and Communications Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:Responsible for all advertising campaigns and marketing strategies for the overall brand, temporary and permanent exhibitions, and education programs to build the museum brand, drive attendance and admission revenue-increasing engagement with scientific content, and engagement in public education programsManage partnerships with internal and external stakeholders such as agencies, exhibition organizers and sponsors, and Museum departments.Own the advertising agency relationship both creatively and from a media perspective.Co-supervised tourism manager and advised on tourist marketing strategy and execution.Direct market research initiatives for all public programs including visitor research, brand resonance, topic testing, and market spending. Work closely with Audience Inisghts & Research team to establish research goals, analyze results, and follow through with action plansParticipate in ideation sessions to develop creative ways to drive the museum's brandManage the Museum's brand identity and its execution across all channels, in partnership with the Visual Graphics department and staffSupervise and/or write copy for marketing messages across advertising and marketing channels, including paid social, digital, and email as neededProvide cross-departmental Communications support, advising on and executing communication strategies for specific Museum constituent groups including Institutional Advancement, Membership, Visitor Services, and Science & EducationDevelop and manage the marketing and advertising budgets.Expand the Museum's marketing partnership program to support communications goals, audience-building initiatives, and sponsorship opportunitiesSupport partner relationships with CityPASS and Go Chicago and lead marketing strategy to drive significant supplemental revenue through those and other discount programs, including Groupon and promotional partnershipsPeriodically assess pricing opportunities to maximize revenue.Maintain awareness of competitive trends in the museum and cultural landscape internationally and locally; drive business data analysis; set campaign goals and metricsRepresent The Field Museum among peer groups supporting Museums in the Park and Choose Chicago affiliationsManage and provide leadership and guidance to the Marketing and Advertising Manager and other staff as assignedQualifications:

A bachelor's degree required in advertising, marketing, liberal arts, or journalism preferred with 8-10 years of dedicated marketing and advertising experienceSuperior writing and editing skills for multiple media channels.An ability to adapt your written voice to fit the channel and Brand.Superior verbal communication skillsA demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize marketing performance metricsIn-depth knowledge and understanding of the current marketing and advertising landscape, trends, toolsAn in-depth knowledge of email marketing is a plusAbility to actively shift between high-level strategic thinking and task-based executionAbility to think, plan, and execute across multiple types of work.Creative and curiousAble to shift between micro-details and big-picture strategic thinkingA self-directed individual who knows what needs to be done and operates with urgency, focus, and disciplineA willingness to be right while being a good sport; the courage to be wrong; smart enough to learn from failures
