The Editorial Director will play a pivotal role in shaping our editorial strategy, acquiring exceptional manuscripts, and overseeing the editorial process from inception to publication. This individual will lead a team of editors and collaborate closely with authors, agents, and internal stakeholders to maintain our high editorial standards and achieve publishing success.****Key Responsibilities:**1. **Strategic Leadership:**2. Develop and implement editorial strategies aligned with the publishing house's goals and market trends.3. Lead and inspire a team of editors, providing guidance and support in manuscript acquisition, development, and publication.4. **Acquisitions and Manuscript Development:**5. Identify and acquire manuscripts that align with the publishing house's editorial vision and market interests.6. Collaborate with agents, authors, and internal teams to negotiate contracts and ensure smooth manuscript development.7. **Editorial Oversight:**8. Oversee the editorial process from manuscript acquisition through to publication, ensuring quality and timeliness at each stage.9. Provide substantive editing guidance to editors and authors to enhance manuscript quality and market appeal.10. **Market Analysis and Trend Awareness:**11. Stay informed about market trends, reader preferences, and competitor activities to inform acquisition decisions and publishing strategies.12. Analyze sales data and reader feedback to adjust editorial strategies as necessary.13. **Cross-functional Collaboration:**14. Work closely with marketing, sales, and production teams to ensure coordinated efforts in launching and promoting published works.15. Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure the visual and physical quality of published books.16. **Author and Agent Relations:**17. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with authors, agents, and industry professionals to enhance the publishing house's reputation and attract top talent.**Qualifications:**+ Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Journalism, or a related field+ Proven experience as an Editorial Director or Executive Editor in a reputable publishing house.+ Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.+ Excellent editorial judgment and deep understanding of market trends.+ Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.+ Passion for literature and a keen interest in fostering new talent.Simon & Schuster US is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) including disability/vet.
