The City of Happy Valley is looking for several on- call Library Aides to add to our team. As a Library Aide, you will be responsible for maintaining and restocking library materials. The Happy Valley Library serves more than 25,000 visitors and circulates almost 60,000 books each month, as part of the LINCC network of libraries. We also offer a wide range of diverse programming for all ages.

This in an on-call position with no regular scheduled hours, but you could be asked to work from 6-20 hours per week as available. Evening and weekend availability is required. Ideal candidates will have regular availability Friday- Sunday. This is not a benefit eligible position but does provide sick leave for hours worked under the Oregon Sick Leave law.

Shifts may include weekend and/or evening hours as early as 7:30am and as late as 8:15pm.About Happy Valley:Happy Valley is known for Its wonderful neighborhoods that have an abundance of parks, open spaces, and meandering trails. GENERAL PURPOSE

Under close supervision retrieve, check in, sort, organize, and shelve library materials, straighten and check shelves to ensure all materials are in proper order. Library Aides work under the supervision of the Library Operations Supervisor or Library Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Any one position in this class may not perform all the duties listed below, nor do the listed examples of duties include all similar and related duties that may be assigned to this class.Accurate filing of alphabetical and numerical information.Provide customer service for patrons.Repetitive motion including gripping, grasping, bending to low shelves and reaching to high shelves.May assist in processing, labeling, and mending books.Ability to communicate effectively with library patrons and staff members.Ability to learn and use the library computer software and other computer programs.Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with many distractions.Contributes to a positive work environment.Maintains a positive and productive working relationship with other Library and City staff.Assist and support the City to identify and provide services to all members of the community and remove barriers to those services.Performs additional duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Alphabetic and numerical filing.Office administrative practices and procedures, including recordkeeping and filing practices and procedures.Principles and practices of sound business communication; proper English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.Ability to become knowledgeable concerning City organization, rules, policies and procedures.Basic functions of public agencies, including the role and responsibilities of a public entity.Computer equipment and uses of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database and other software.Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to public and City staff, in person, in writing and over the telephone.Ability to:

Accurately file library materials by alphabet and numerically.Effectively communicate accurate information both orally and in writing.Make decisions based on regulations and established policies and procedures.Work independently, quickly, and accurately with close attention to detail in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions and changing priorities.Operate a computer, required software and other standard office equipment.Manage multiple and rapidly changing priorities.Prepare clear, accurate and concise records and reports.Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Comprehend and use English effectively including producing all forms of communication in a clear, concise, and understandable manner to intended audiences.Work collaboratively with people from all backgrounds.Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; experience with library system and environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

Minimum one year of computer proficiency.Minimum one year of customer service experience.Requires Microsoft Office proficiency.Display the ability to accurately file alphabetical and numerical information (pass the self-administered alpha-numerical exam).Working conditions:

Repetitive motion including gripping, grasping, bending to low shelves and reaching to high shelves.Lifting of book crates weighing up to 40 lbs. with the ability to carry 15 feet.Work is performed at the Library.Shifts may include weekend and/or evening hours as early as 7:30 am and as late as 8:15 pm.Reasonable accommodations will be evaluated on an individual basis and depend, in part, on the specific requirement for the job, the limitations related to disability and the ability of the City to accommodate the limitation.
