Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to manage the operation and staff of a regional library or a major library function of the main library. Develop overall service plan, staff development and regional coordination of library services and programming.This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.• Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures.• Prepares and submits statistical reports and conducts special projects.• Conducts research and assists patrons with the selection and location of books and other materials.• Serves on committees dealing with specific library functions or issues.• Assists the public with the use of library materials and equipment.• Receives and attempts to resolve complaints from the public.• Promotes programs and services of the library in the community.• Facilitates meetings of various sizes and program magnitude.• Develops staff training programs.• Provides customer service, outreach and technology assistance to the public.• Manages regional and systemwide programs, events, services and outreach.• Makes recommendations regarding policy and procedure development and implementation.• Leads the development and maintenance of materials collections in areas of concentration.• Confers with regional community leaders and the general public to develop responsive programming, to gather input and to resolve issues.• Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS• Master's Degree in Library Science or related discipline.• Four (4) years of library supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES• Must hold and maintain a Professional certification in the State of Kentucky (KRS 171.250) within 30 days of employment.• Eligible for certificate of Librarianship from the State Board for the Certification of Librarians.• Must work a varied schedule.• Must provide one's own source of transportation.• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
