Job Purpose/Summary: Responsible for creating, implementing, and managing strategic, multi-faceted marketing, communications (internal and external) and community relations programs and/or initiatives to reflect the company's mission, vision and values as set forth in its applicable strategic plan and to further the business, community and commercial objectives of the company.Essential Functions:* Under the direction of the Vice President of External and Legal Affairs and/or Director of Business Development and Corporate Relations, develop marketing initiatives and strategies and conduct regular SWOT analysis for inclusion in strategic marketing planning.* Lead and manage staff and/or consultants supporting the company's Marketing and Communications team.* Develop strategic social media plans including long term strategies and shorter-term tactics to build brand image and market awareness.* Oversee design and management of the company's public website and other social media platforms.* Develop and deploy marketing and communication campaigns to achieve strategic and tactical objectives of the company such as enhanced revenues, rate case support, etc.* Develop, support, and manage external and customer-facing commercial information of various types (e.g., business development, educational, corporate updates, etc.).* Build and foster long-term relationships with various stakeholders including the employees, customers, regulators, media, community members, and other business and industry leaders.* Oversee development of employee bulletins, customer newsletters, and marketing brochures.* Work with the company's sales and business relations teams to develop and support sales promotions, participation at trade shows and other commercial and community activities.* Manage commercial marketing budget, including annual advertising in trade journals, maritime publications, etc. Support the Vice President of External and Legal Affairs/Director of Business Development and Corporate Relations in evaluating return on investments of marketing and other related campaigns and maximizing marketing value of same.* Measure and report performance of marketing campaigns, assessing performance against goals.* Support the sales and business relations and customer relations and experience teams in the administration of the Customer Relations Management (aka, CRM) database or portal, including claims, data maintenance, campaign coordination, report generation, forecasting-related activities, sales travel and customer visitation.* Support the Vice President of External and Legal Affairs/Director of Business Development and Corporate Relations in coordinating and executing strategies and initiatives for the company's presence at public and community relations events such as charitable fundraisers, maritime industry events, and various employee activities.* Provide and manage the company's communication support for special company activities and community, customer, or employee engagement events. These may include, but are not limited to, employee and customer appreciation functions, major media events or news-related activities.* Follow social, economic, and political trends with potential impact to the organization, and make recommendations to enhance the company's image on the basis of those trends.* Manage and coordinate the company's crisis communication efforts, including acting as media spokesperson, responding to media requests for information and facilitating interviews with the applicable company representatives; produce news releases and materials, fact sheets, online content and program announcements.* Understands and complies with EEO, Non-Discrimination, Harassment, and all other HR policies and procedures.* Effectively communicates goals and objectives.* Provides direction and leadership to achieve company Core Values, Mission and Safety Vision as set forth in the applicable strategic plan.* Performs other duties as assigned.* Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.* Adheres to all company policies.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* Demonstrated effective written communication and proven ability to understand, interpret, and write about complex information; demonstrated excellent oral communication skills by clearly presenting information through the spoken word in positive and negative circumstances.* Strong command of English language, attention to detail and ability to edit and proofread.* Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe, desktop publishing software, SharePoint, and CRM software (or the ability to learn it).* Effective leadership and interpersonal skills to communicate with a wide variety of audiences including senior level management, regulatory agencies, media, customers, company peers, and others.* Ability to work effectively with all levels of business and community leaders with a verifiable track record of relationship building with both internal and external customers.* Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and ability to represent the company effectively in a variety of settings and with diverse communities.* Ability to organize and prioritize workload, effectively manage time and meet deadlines.* Public speaking skills necessary in making presentations and providing training to internal and external audiences, as well as representing the company to customers.* Must be able to attend, participate and manage eventse independently.* Advertising/media/public relations experience preferred.Minimum Qualifications:* Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business or related field is preferred.* 5 - 7 years' progressively responsible professional experience in marketing, communications and public or community relations.* Previous management level experience with development and implementation of strategic marketing plans, brand maintenance, advertising and/or earned media, digital marketing, collateral development and crisis communication.* Familiarity with the maritime, transportation and/or logistics field preferred.Working Conditions: Work is mostly performed in a normal office environment with occasional visits to vessels and shipyards in all types of weather. May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends. Travel may also be required. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.Physical/Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to move between buildings, ascend/descend stairs and go outdoors in all kinds of weather. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Talking may be required 50 - 75% of the time, with the need for reciprocal communication.
