Occupational Summary

The Goodson Law Library Evening and Weekend Circulation Desk Supervisor (Library Assistant Senior) manages all library circulation operations during evening hours (generally 4:00 pm-8:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 1:00-4:00 pm, Sunday during the academic year). This position may also oversee student staff and interlibrary loan activities. This position will begin as a one-year term position, and with a possibility to renew. Start date is negotiable, with a preferrable date Monday August 5, 2024.

Core ResponsibilitiesGeneral supervision of the library space during evening and weekend shifts.Performs tasks supporting the library's Access Services operations, including interlibrary loan processing.Applies established guidelines to accomplish tasks and solve problems. Exercises independent judgment in applying guidelines to library operations and services.Responds to requests/issues that deviate from standard operating procedures by determining and consulting appropriate resources such as policies, manuals, or other staff.Records, compiles, and summarizes data using established formats.Performs simple and complex operations using the library's technology and materials.Explains and interprets programs, policies, and procedures to meet patrons' needs.Performs office support tasks.May supervise the day-to-day work of students.Assists with other library projects and initiatives as assigned.Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Requires one year of library experience to obtain specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial environment.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.A patron-focused philosophy and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.Able to work independently and as a team member; demonstrated proficiency using computer-based technology and ability to adapt to new technologies; ability to effectively organize and prioritize daily work.Preferred

Master's degree in Library Science or current graduate student in Library Science.Experience working in an academic library setting.Experience supervising students in a professional setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Required: Two years post-secondary education or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

Required: Requires one year of library experience to obtain a OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to work independently and as a member of a team; demonstrated proficiency using computer based technology and ability to adapt to new technologies; ability to effectively organize and prioritize daily work; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services. Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library
