The Digital Art Director will be a key player in transforming AARP's award winning editorial content into innovative digital experiences that are appropriate for our members. The position will be part of a robust editorial design team consisting of designers, art directors, production managers and photo producers who work regularly with editors, social media, and UX. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivator and one who is able to multitask multiple projects on tight deadlines. We are looking for a creative storyteller with an editorial background.

Responsibilities

Directs and designs print and digital layouts as well as photo selections and retouching, with oversight from senior staff.Conceptualizes and executes layouts and prepares files for print and digital production.Collaborates with the photo department on visuals and works with editors and production staff to meet deadlines.Coordinates editorial print layouts with other assigned design projects (print or digital).Provides input contracts for illustrators, uploads illustrations to CMS, aids in award submissions, and additional small administrative tasks as needed.Supports quality control productions by actively participating proofing parties before files are released.Develops creative presentations for key stakeholders and providers.Qualifications

Immersive story-telling experience with an eye for typography.Strong editorial (magazines, newspapers) background.Demonstrated expertise in narrative visual storytelling for web and mobile platforms.Advanced proficiency in Figma, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and AEM is a plus.Able to collaborate effectively with third-party vendors and managing vendor contracts.A team player who can pivot and redirect as needed.A mastery of fundamental graphic design skills.Must have an online portfolio to be considered for the position.AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
