Industrial Designer (Thermos, Lifefactory, alfi Brand Products)Reports to:
Vice President of Product DevelopmentPrimary role/Job description:The ideal candidate will be expected to design and develop products from initial marketing brief through design completion and into manufacturing for all product lines. Through research and ideation, they will be expected to create desirable and exciting products that excel at retail and enhance the end-user experience.Industrial Design Responsibilities and ExpectationsProficiency in design and brand strategy and a sophisticated understanding of aesthetics and manufacturing of ideally both hard and soft consumer products.o Basic understanding of materials and manufacturing processes including injection molding, vacuum forming, blow molding, metal forming & stamping, cut and sew and assembly a plus.Understand and track design and market trends to identify areas of opportunity for line expansion and product development.Participate in research and development of new design concepts and understand how to translate these concepts into viable brand appropriate product lines.Monitor and recap seasonal color and design trend forecasts and present trend boards as well as detailed CMF (Color, Material, Finish) recommendations for design concepts.Create detailed drawings and refined sketches explaining form and function.Create photo realistic renderings in accurate and to scale materials and settingso Rendering to be performed using Solidworks Visualize Pro.Manage, create and update 3D design animations and resource tools, including digital files and material libraries.Experience working with physical models, materials, finishes, prototypes, and 3D printing is a plusMust be able to effectively collaborate with Product Managers and Engineers to evaluate product prototypes in order to determine production feasibility and costs.Other job related duties as assigned.Education & Experience:A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Design, Product Design, or Mechanical Engineering.Minimum of three years of corporate or consultancy Industrial Design experience, preferably in consumer products.Must have excellent skills in the core Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator CC, Photoshop CC and Indesign CC) as well as 3D rendering programs such as Solid Works, Visualize Pro or Keyshot.Individual must be proficient in 3D modeling software. (PTC Creo experience preferred).Excellent sketching and visualization skills, along with the ability to present a strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual work, renderings and design solutions from concept to completion.Please note: this position is currently work from home; however, only candidates that are able to commute to our Schaumburg location will be considered.Thermos L.L.C. offers a competitive and generous benefits package.
