Amazon Web Services (AWS) seeks a creative, self-motivated, high-judgment, well-connected and experienced public relations professional to drive communications programs for its growing services portfolio. The Communications Manager is passionate about the opportunities made possible through tech, possesses extensive media relations experience, is an expert at translating technology concepts into broadly digestible stories, has experience with reputational management, and can exercise high-judgment while acting quickly. This role will focus on telling the story of what makes AWS physical infrastructure and technology hardware distinctive, and support new infrastructure launches.

The ideal candidate enjoys diving deep into technology, understanding how it is shaping and redefining the world we live in and engaging top tier business, and technology media. They are motivated by a dynamic, highly creative culture where the challenge of breaking new ground and redefining best practices is welcome. In this role, the candidate will have the ability to work alongside a variety of internal teams and also support AWS customers. The candidate must have excellent writing skills, have experience driving proactive campaigns and have a track record of utilizing good judgement in high pressure situations. The candidate must be comfortable working sensitive issues and communicating about issues that can impact AWS’s reputation.

Key job responsibilities

Define, develop, and oversee end-to-end execution of a business-critical communications programs

Ensure factually accurate representation of AWS services in the press

Manage sensitive reputational issues with internal stakeholders and members of the media

Protect sensitive competitive, technical, and business confidential information

Develop and strengthen relationships with key journalists, bloggers, and evaluators in technology trade and business press, along with reporters who cover AWS’s presence in our communities

Regularly interact with senior leadership to influence strategy and negotiate decisions in relation to service issues, announcements, and messaging

Work cross-functionally to plan and execute PR campaigns

Manage complex, fast-moving, and unexpected communications challenges with high judgment and professionalism

Basic Qualifications

7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field

Tech infrastructure and business-to-business technology PR experience required

Current experience managing media relationships with a network of media contacts

Experience with business-critical communications

Preferred Qualifications

An entrepreneurial spirit, including ability to work independently and autonomously

Proven experience with business-critical communications and issues management

A track record of successfully representing high-profile enterprise Information Technology products or technology companies

Outstanding attention to detail, understanding of technology and the efficiency of cloud computing, and ability to communicate complex topics effectively

Experience working with and understanding public policy and energy issues, and partnering with third-party organizations

Thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done

Creativity and bias for action

Good judgment and the ability to respond quickly, yet thoughtfully, to urgent PR matters

A knack for diplomacy and the confidence to engage and build consensus with functional leaders at all levels

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $188,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
