Synopsis

The SWAT Truss Designer I works in partnership with the Client or Component Manufacturer to produce floor and roof truss placement plans and truss design profile drawings utilizing their ability to understand blueprints and customer requirements for specific residential and commercial projects. Additional support will be required supporting immediate client needs through FAE SWAT Ticket system.

Duties & Responsibilities

Design residential roof and floor systems that accurately represent information gathered from architectural project documents using Truss software, while optimizing the designs to save money on materials and labor and adhering to code and company standardsProduce truss component designs for use in shop fabrication.Maintain job related files utilizing Fieldstones file and folder structure process and procedures.Follow project tasks given and update status throughout the day and pace your own work efficiency in order to meet daily, weekly, project-related, or team-related productivity goals.Determine design specifications based on blueprints and structural design needs.Using critical thinking skills to resolve architectural and design discrepancies.Communicate with customer and/or Architect or Engineer on technical aspects of plans which require clarification.Communicates with job site supervisors to resolve design/engineering issues as they arise in the field.Determines client issues, root cause and repair of the issue.Manages RFI's and submittals.Works with Client to handle permit rejections.Consistently applies Fieldstone's Quality Control procedures and takes ownership of their work.Maintains and complies with Fieldstone and client-specific standards (CAD, File Management, etc.).Participates in occasional team meetings to help resolve project issues such as coordination, scheduling, and technical concerns.Fosters a culture of external and internal client service.Other duties may be assigned.Required Knowledge

Knowledge of truss products and connectors sufficient to determine appropriate structural applicationsGood verbal and written communication skillsAbility to read and understand blueprints and architectural drawingsGeneral construction industry knowledge, basic CAD and drafting knowledge, engineering fundamentals, and current local codes related to truss designStrong mathematical abilities, including the ability to calculate tributary loads, concentrated loads, and load transfer throughout the building.Residential and commercial structuresAnalysis, reports & opinionsDevelopment of construction documentsRepairsRequired Skills

2 years related experience and/or training in wood truss design and engineering software preferred, but willing to train the right candidateEducation: High School Diploma/GED equivalent required; AA degree preferredExperience with component design applications preferredFamiliarity with truss productsComputer aided drafting experience preferred
