Job Summary

Position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic care in Art Therapy as well as additional professional duties beyond the routine daily responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Master's Degree, Art Therapy.

Licenses/Certifications:

Must be a registered art therapist (ATR) or board certified (ATR-BC) through The Art Therapy Credentials Board within the first year of hire, CPR certification required.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

One (1) year of experience as an Art Therapist preferred.Clinical experience in treating individuals who have experienced trauma, physical or emotional, or changes in body image or physical functioning is preferred.Spanish-bilingual preferred.Experience in treating patients in a wide age range from school aged to adolescence preferred.Able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as necessary.Able to demonstrate competency and a basic knowledge of age specific criteria in the patient populations served within the introductory period.Principal Accountabilities

Provides therapeutic art interventions to enhance expression of feelings, increase the individual's self-awareness and expression, and promote positive coping of the health care experience to individual patients, groups of patients and patient's family members.Evaluates the effectiveness of the art interventions provided, and make changes and adaptations as appropriate.Serves as an educational resource on using therapeutic art activities with children and youth in the health care environment.Identifies appropriate art resources and maintain their safety and accessibility.Participates in multidisciplinary meetings and work in a collaborative way with other healthcare disciplines.Clear communication skills (oral and written).Possesses ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks.Competency assessed at least annually.Evaluates and treats patients according to appropriate age group and diagnosis.Maintains all essential documentation.Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.Other duties as assigned.
