THE ROLE:

This role is in AMD's Strategic Silicon Solutions (S3) Business Unit, where we are seeking an energetic, experienced System Engineering Shift Left/Emulation Technical Lead to join our growing team where past products include game consoles such as the Sony PS5, Valve Steam Deck, and the Xbox Series X.

As a key contributor to the success of AMD's strategic direction and technical growth, you will be responsible for driving and supporting our team in validating silicon designs and implementing new Shift Left initiative technologies. You will foster and encourage continuous technical innovation, including enablement of new SOC and Enterprise Emulation technologies, improving pre-silicon IP and system validation coverage, and cultivating new software enablement. In addition, the candidate will plan and implement shift left work for upcoming S3 products, and tightly coordinate and work with the program-specific technical leads including the product Lead System Engineer and product Silicon Evaluation Lead.

THE PERSON:

The needs of this role require the candidate to have an in-depth understanding of microprocessor product development, as well as being able to solve multiple concurrent complex problems on aggressive timelines. This technical leader must have excellent collaboration and communication skills. The candidate must have a proven track record of working well across teams and delivering projects to completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Directed focus on the goals of improving product time-to-market, quality of hardware, firmware, software, lowering development costsWork with various pre-silicon tools and concepts such as emulation, FPGA, software models, N-1 silicon usage, etc., including pre-to-post-silicon initiativesContribute to high-priority issue debug and execution on critical projectsSupport junior team members in developing their technical knowledge and debug skillsDrive new capabilities and technologies to effectively enhance system validation quality and coverage prior to silicon arrivalDrive Shift Left execution, partnering with the SEL (Chief Engineering team) and LSE (Systems Engineering)Lead defining shift left strategies for new products with new customersDrive quality improvements upstream to the SOC, IP, FW, and product engineering teamsDefine key metrics to facilitate and track improvementsCollaborate with other business units within AMD to share learning and best practicesPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

10+ years of semiconductor development with focused experience in emulation and other shift left technologies and processesKnowledge of computer system architecture and microprocessor developmentDemonstrated success in product verification, emulation, and post silicon validationStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to structure and execute complex analysis, draw insights, and communicate summary findings/recommendations to senior management and to AMD customersAbility to network, build relationships, and drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and levels within the organizationHighly organized, able to prioritize, and juggle multiple work streams to tight deadlinesAssets

Strong understanding of firmware components, OS (Linux, Windows, Android), and Driver-level interactions at the system level, including their common failure points in the context of emulation environments, and debug methodologies available to resolve these issuesFamiliarity with Git, GitLab/GitHub and other software repository frameworks and methodologies, their best practices, and pitfallsTechnical understanding of Graphics, Display, Multimedia, PCIe, System Management, Power Management, or Security/Crypto architecture & design including their limitations in a pre-silicon environment and ways to work around them

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Bachelors or Higher Accreditation in CE, CS, EE, or related fields with 10+ years of industry experience
