POSITION OBJECTIVEWorking under general supervision, the Web Developer will be responsible for a range of duties involving front-end development and site-building, as well as back-end development within the University Marketing and Communications content management system (Drupal). They will need to collaborate with individuals possessing skills ranging from web development and design to information architecture, user experience, web writing and other functions. Working with colleagues, the web developer will assist in the development, configuration, migration, integration, testing and maintenance of websites. This individual will also ensure that all Case Western Reserve University sites within the content management system conform to university brand standards, federal law regarding accessibility and department protocols for functionality and usability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSWork collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team. Coordinate and manage aspects of Case Western Reserve University websites daily to maintain it as the central information source for all audiences. (25%)Build page layouts with content and blocks, build navigation with menus and toolbars, create content types, and perform code reviews. Assist with implementation and testing for new Drupal websites. Diagnose and correct any issues. Maintain architectural standards and patterns. (20%)Work independently to implement, design, test, problem solve, modify and document moderately complex systems requiring thorough knowledge of business applications and processes. Implement views, taxonomies, and references. (15%)Manage Drupal solutions for support releases and develop ideas for improving and extending the solution, including modules. (15%)Develop and produce documentation of web applications including requirements and design documents, code documentation, user documentation and other reports as needed. Assist in developing custom integrations to bridge third-party software. (15%)NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSTranslate technical information and prepare detailed specifications for project management plans. (5%)Ensure the protection and security of data that is accessed, collected, or stored by web applications and databases. (5%)Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. (

CONTACTSDepartment: Daily contact with department staff to maintain workflow.University: Contact with school and department partners.External: Occasional contact with outside consultants and representatives.Students: Little or no contact with students.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYNo direct supervisory responsibility.QUALIFICATIONSExperience and Education: Associate's degree and 5 years related experience OR Bachelor's degree and 3 years related experience. (Prefer degree in web design, computer science or a related field.)REQUIRED SKILLS1. Experience with Drupal 10 CMS development2. Proficiency in core technologies for development (CSS, Sass, HTML, PHP and JavaScript)3. Recent experience for all aspects of Drupal theming including UI familiarity, configuration, and basic site administration, creation/manipulation of template files, preprocessing, and writing/overriding theme functions4. Experience creating and managing front-end build processes including npm5. Experience identifying and resolving accessibility-related issues6. Familiarity with developer tools available in modern browsers7. Familiarity with managed hosting services and deployment tools8. Knowledge of React9. Knowledge of Docker-based local development environments10. Experience with pull request and peer review workflows, including use of Git or other revision control tool for version control in a group setting11. Knowledge and adherence to Drupal coding and security standards12. Familiarity with terminal development tools like Drush13. Strong written and verbal professional communication skills14. Has a professional, collaborative, and proactive approach to people and problems15. Team player with proven ability to work well under pressure and within deadlines16. This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department.
