Purdue Marketing and Communications is looking to add an experienced Web Developer to assist with the development and maintenance of a number of the university's websites. This includes purdue.edu, stories.purdue.edu, and other Purdue-related domains. This role requires knowledge and skills in web programming languages like PHP, HTML5, and CSS3. The ideal candidate will have experience in content management systems (CMS) like WordPress and Cascade and an understanding of responsive and adaptive design. The Senior Web Developer will work closely with other web developers, website content managers, and web designers, as well as on cross-functional teams with digital marketers, project managers, marketing strategists, and copywriters. This role must be detail-oriented and have strong time management skills to work efficiently alongside other web team members.

This position is available for remote work, but candidates must live within driving distance of the West Lafayette campus and be available as business needs dictate.

What You'll Be Doing:

Development

Perform website design and development, including creating and updating web pages, templates, and other web assets. Follow current web standards and style guides while helping improve them with recommendations. Create visually appealing, user-friendly, and responsive websites that meet the needs of the university's faculty, staff, and students, and visitors.Maintenance and Support

Perform website maintenance tasks, such as troubleshooting and resolving issues, monitoring security and performance, and updating content. Assist with website accessibility compliance and ensure that websites adhere to accessibility standards and guidelines. Help train or troubleshoot and resolve issues with campus partners. Support campus partners with applying or updating themes. Implement new features and functionalities with a range of plugins or tools. Document technical requirements.Collaboration

Collaborate with web developers, web content managers, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and implement changes or enhancements to websites. Be a team player with flexibility while working with cross functional teams. Brainstorm ideas and recommend the best solutions.Learning and Training

Gain experience seeing the website development process from end-to-end while learning what it takes to deliver a quality, functional final product. Stay up to date on the latest web best practices, code organization, performance optimization, project management, and industry trends.About Us:

What We're Looking For:

Education and ExperienceQualified candidates will need:

Bachelor's degree in a corresponding field related to computer science.Four (4) years of web content and/or web programming experienceIn lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experienceProficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web development technologies.Familiarity with web development frameworks and tools like React, Angular, Vue.js, Git, and Node.js.Experience with web content management systems (CMS) and platforms such as WordPress and Cascade.Team coordination experience in a business environment.Familiarity with website accessibility standards and guidelines.Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.Understanding of web standards, browser performance, and brand consistency across web properties.Skills needed:

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and resolve website-related issues.Ability to take direction from web team members on various projects with strong attention to detail and time management skills.Good communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.Continuous learning mindset and willingness to stay updated with the latest web development trends and technologies.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and work independently, as well as part of a team with a commitment to detail and accuracy.Ability to make timely updates to websites to improve performance, fix broken links and images, and improve page load speeds.Passion for web development with a commitment to growing your skills and knowledge.Additional Information:
