ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - MASTER OF MARKETING EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

The Carlson School of Management Master of Marketing combines a world-class education, with practical classroom experience in one of the nation's most robust business communities. Our core curricula provide a rigorous education in the foundations of business and marketing taught by internationally recognized faculty known for their excellence in research. In parallel, the program has an in depth experiential leaning element, providing a hands on learning environment that immerses Master of Marketing (MSMK) students in marketing focused consulting projects preparing them for high-quality careers. MSMK projects cover a wide range of topics, including Marketing Strategy, Brand Management, Consumer Insights, Digital Marketing, and Marketing Analytics.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Associate Director of MSMK Experiential Learning will work closely with the Marketing Departments experiential learning Managing Director, with responsibilities including: recruiting students, teaching classes in Business Fundamentals and Project Management, coaching teams, mentoring students, assisting business development to secure quality consulting projects, and overall consulting engagement management. The effectiveness MSMK Experiential Learning is measured primarily by the quality of student learning and by client satisfaction. This is a 75% position. The salary range for this position is $69,750-$75,125.

Therefore, the Associate Director must have proven success in:

  • Coaching and mentoring early career professionals.
  • Developing business relationships, selling projects, delivering high-quality project results, and managing client relationships in a wide variety of types of marketing consulting engagements in a variety of industries.
  • Managing consultant or project teams and teaching early career professionals in a classroom setting.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Teach, coach and mentor students - 50%

  • Develop and deliver classroom content not already covered in our MSMK curricula, project specific content etc.
  • Teach project management and business fundamentals courses. Responsible for 6-9 credits per academic year.
  • Empower MSMK consultants to take leadership and ownership of their projects
  • Coach student consulting teams from project launch to conclusion and post-project review.
  • Provide regular and detailed performance feedback to MSMK consultants and assist assignment of grades for all MSMK consultants.
  • Partner with the Graduate Business Career Center (GBCC) to mentor students, help them find summer internships and full-time employment in high-quality jobs, prep for case interviews, track employment, and develop corporate relationships.

Assist in developing productive client relationships, scope and confirm student projects, negotiate fees - 40%

  • Build and manage client relationships and manage the sales cycle to generate high-quality projects with a wide variety of clients to provide appropriate learning experiences for MSMK student consultants.
  • Coordinate with Experiential Managing Director on business development and project selection across programs
  • Assist in identification and developing relationships with target companies.
  • Work collaboratively with clients to scope projects that are appropriate challenges for MSMK student consultants (e.g., appropriate degree of difficulty, relevant to student learning objectives, professional development needs, and career aspirations).
  • Negotiate project fees with clients and deliver consulting services to offset program costs.
  • Assist the effort to establish a marketing consulting practice knowledge base.

Manage enterprise operations and Support Carlson School activities - 10%

  • Assist in the management of MSMK experiential operations (budgets, accounting, billing, marketing, materials, website, newsletters, office, and other administrative functions) in coordination with our support staff.
  • Provide mentoring for students, and enhance our students' professional network.
  • Support other Carlson units as needed.
  • Serve on departmental and college committees as needed.

Qualifications


*MINIMUM / ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS degree plus at least eight (8) years of relevant experience, or a master's degree plus at least six (6) years of relevant experience
  • More than five years professional consulting experience or comparable corporate experience dealing with marketing strategy, brand management, project management, general management, etc.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a leader and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Significant success managing project teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success in dealing with senior executives, clients, and a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and sales.
  • Experience in teaching, training, mentoring, and developing early career professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong presentation abilities.

  • Business network with firms in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.
