Grant Writing and Proposal Development:POSITION SUMMARYThe Grant Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, and coordinating new grant opportunities. Key duties include identifying and evaluating potential funding sources, collaborating with grant team members and program staff to develop grant budgets, and coordinating proposal components with CSS program directors and administrators.ABOUT USCSS is a Catholic human and social services agency and behavioral health care provider that welcomes people of all faiths through its programs and employment. We provide help for our Alaskan neighbors through a variety of supportive service programs, including emergency shelter, food stability, housing, case management, and refugee assistance. With a strong focus on accounting functions, including accurate financial recording, reporting, and compliance with applicable financial regulations, this department lays the foundation for CSS's fiscal integrity. In conjunction with these accounting responsibilities, the department also actively engages in grants management. It is responsible for securing, tracking, and effectively utilizing grants to support CSS's mission of providing compassionate and comprehensive social services to individuals and families in need across Alaska. This dual emphasis on accounting and grants management ensures CSS maintains transparent and accountable financial practices while maximizing the impact of grant funds in fulfilling its mission.REQUIRED COMPETENCIESTeamwork: Interacts effectively with team members, encouraging and respecting input from all. Crafts compelling and persuasive grant proposals that effectively communicate the agency's objectives and impact to potential funders.Organization: Efficiently manages resources, time, and energy, with meticulous attention to detail that ensures standardized and easily accessible documentation.Critical Thinking: Analyzes facts and observations to inform problem-solving and decision-making processes.Self-sufficiency: Works independently and proactively guides day-to-day activities, knowing when to seek input and ask questions.Decision Making & Judgement: Approaches problems and decisions methodically and objectively, using sound judgment to assess impacts on themselves, their team, and the organization, and making timely decisions.RESPONSIBILITIES:Grant Writing and Proposal Development:Write high-quality grant proposals, narratives, and applications that align with organizational strategies and priorities.Lead in the development and writing of grant applications and renewals, collaborating with other departments and program staff.Gather required data and programming details from various departments to assemble complete and accurate grant applications and proposals.Research and Opportunity Management:Research and identify potential grants and funding opportunities.Track the status of all grant applications and renewals using grant tracking software.Resource Management and Support:Maintain knowledge of current funders and funding requirements across federal, state, municipal, and private organizations.Serve as a resource for other departments by providing accurate advice on grant-related issues.Curate and manage a library of organizational reference materials, including annual reports, fact sheets, program data, job descriptions, and resumes.Other Responsibilities:Participate in the CSS Grant Committee and support committee-related tasks.Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism or a related field. Four (4) years of experience may be substituted for the required education.Grant Writer I: Two (2) years of experience in grant writing is required. Technical or other types of writing may be considered. Other relevant experience may be substituted for the required experience.Grant Writer II: Four (4) years of experience in grant writing is required. Other relevant experience will be considered but cannot be substituted for the required experience.WORK ENVIROMENTWork environment: Work is performed in a standard indoor office.Physical demands: Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Frequently sitting or standing at a desk for several hours at a time.Location: 4600 Debarr Road, Anchorage, Alaska 99508
