Position Summary:

The Grand Valley Area Command (GVAC) Grant Writer manages the GVAC grants in collaboration with the GVAC Corps and DHQ Grant and Social Services teams. The Grant Writer will develop an in-depth understanding of programs to prepare proposals, report on grant expenditures, and steward and cultivate donor relationships to maximize grant funds and awards. This role will research current major donors for additional cultivation/stewardship and identify non-donors with significant giving potential. This will be done in coordination with the GVAC County/Corps Development Directors and Divisional Social Services and Development departments.Essential Responsibilities:Conducts prospect research to develop a strategic plan, including prospective funding sources.Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of all grants received.Ensures overall quality and accuracy of all grant documents.Prepares grant expenditure reports, project budgets, and related documentation and is responsible for preparing and submitting to relevant parties.Writes high-quality, detailed proposals and letters of intent in line with unique funder specifications and program designs.Assembles proposals and Letters of Intent/Inquiry for submission within funder deadlines.Coordinates completing and submitting required reports to foundations and other funding sources.Follows up as appropriate; meets deadlines; responds to proposal/required reports inquiries.Develops and maintains a strong brand identity in donor relations mechanisms.Represents The Salvation Army at public meetings with organizations, foundations, corporate representatives, and other community members, as requested.Attends and participates in program staff and committee meetings as requested.Serves as a liaison between program managers and outside funding sources.Collaborates with program directors to meet funder expectations while liaising between parties.Supports staff in identifying media and public relations opportunities highlighting foundation partnerships and support and how The Salvation Army programs benefit the communities served.Works closely with the Divisional Philanthropy Team and the GVAC County/Corps Development Directors.Functions as Angel Tree collection site coordinator.Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:Writes high-quality, detailed donor reporting and thank you letters, letters of inquiry, and corporate sponsorship letters.Designs and edits communication pieces, such as e-newsletters, annual reports, brochures, posters, infographics, e-mails, signage, and other forward-facing publications as GVAC needs.Provides support for presentations, photography and video, website administration, and social media management as needed.Manages Angel Tree gift collection Sites, including scheduling and receiving gifts.Manages Angel Tree gift collection promotion and communication.

Qualifications:Education/Experience:Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Non-Profit Administration, Literary, or related degree; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Demonstrated successful experience in proposal writing and familiarity with donor development.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:Creative, strategic thinker.Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.

Computer Skills:Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint.Experience with Adobe CloudWillingness to learn new software as needed.

Certificates and Licenses:Complete Safe From Harm training and keep current as needed.Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR).
