JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Overview/Description
The Smeal College of Business marketing data analyst is a data “whisperer”. Not only will the person in this role live and love data, but they’ll know exactly what data to gather, where to find it, how to bring it to a central gathering spot, assemble and visualize it for ease of consumption for folks who may not be as comfortable with data as they are. And here’s where the ultimate “whispering” comes in: the person in this role will have curiosity, instincts and intuition to spot trends, interpret and tell stories about what the data means and what we do with it. The data and analytics manager will be a vital member of the marketing and communications team, helping us make fact-based, data-driven decisions on plans and strategies. Among the data sources this person will work with include but are not limited to automated marketing/lead nurturing, website analytics, PPC and SEO, heatmapping tools, CRM activities and conversion funnel metrics, social media/marketing platforms.
Activities and Recurring Tasks
Identify source of all critical marketing and communications data
Obtain user/access rights to the data and systems
Work with member of the marketing and communications team, IT and other college partners to gather data on a daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis.
Work with IT to aggregate data on an automated basis to feed data assembly and visualization tools.
Collaborating with other teams to implement new systems and tracking
Regularly publish data and trends, including but not limited to standard weekly results and formal monthly reports.
Meet with stakeholders as needed to provide interpretations of data and strategic recommendations
Relationships
The person in this role will work with personnel across the college, including but not limited to:
Peer Team within the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications
The RIIT Group (The IT team within Smeal)
Penn State Strategic Communications
Penn State World Campus
Academic, Center and Program Leaders within Smeal
Requirements & Skills/Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, statistics, or a related field/discipline
Demonstrable experience (5 years minimum) performing many, if not all of, the activities/recurring tasks
Very strong oral and written communications skills
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively
Advanced working knowledge of EXCEL
Advanced Working knowledge of data assembly, publishing and visualization tools like PowerBI, Tableu or other tools similar to these
Advanced working knowledge of dashboard creation
Working knowledge of GA4
Familiarity with SQL

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
