Division Overview:

Ampirical's Substation Engineering Division has recognized national expertise in the planning and design of new substations and high voltage electrical substations and switchyards. The mixture of our talents to offer all aspects of substation/switchyard design services, our trained resources to get the job done, and technical knowledge allows us to design a multitude of solutions to fit the client's need.

Job Summary:

The Substation Designer is responsible for the detailed design of electric systems and components for Substation Facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards. This position is responsible for all phases of designing mid to high voltage electrical transmission, switching, and distribution substations (and stations) for the electric utility industry, permitting, and overseeing the construction of capital substation projects, and for establishing and maintaining substation material and construction standards.

The salary range for this position is starting at $42.50 per hour - Commensurate, depending on relevant experience, education, and qualifications. We also offer semi-annual profit-sharing bonuses based on company profits to share in the mutual success! In the past, these have ranges between 3.5% - 11.5% of annual salary.

Electrical Engineering Tech DegreeIn lieu of a degree, 3-5 years of experience will suffice

3D Modeling experience in Microstation, Autodesk Inventor, and/or AutoCADMicrosoft Office skills (Word/Excel)Teamwork oriented attitudeStrong verbal and written communication skillsEssential Duties & Responsibilities:

Prepare 2D and/or 3D Models of electrical substation equipment structures and foundations (using Microstation, Bentley Substation, AutoCAD, and/or Autodesk Inventor software).Catalog Models in multiple platforms.Prepare 2D drawings extracted from the model, if dealing with 3D.Prepare 2D drawings of equipment, layouts, lighting, grounding power, distribution system, etc.Coordinate with Electrical Engineers, Senior Designers, and vendors to develop the 3D models and/or 2D drawings.Confirm electrical clearances.Verify proper insulation levels.verify bus capacities.Substation Design: Perform duties associated with all phases of substation design work, including (but not limited to): station sighting, site preparation, physical and electrical facilities, electrical design, structural design, foundation design, and permitting, for station voltages through 138kV.Project Management: Perform team project management duties and participate on project teams where the teams are responsible for project scheduling, cost management, and coordination of all aspects of the project.Contract Administration: Prepare and administrate construction contracts.Standards and Specifications: Prepare and maintain substation material, design and construction specifications and standards, incorporating special expertise to address unique local environmental problems.Permitting: Ensure permitting requirements are met for projects.Compliance: Demonstrate compliance with applicable NERC standards as they apply to Operations. Interface with E&O workgroups to support their compliance efforts, as needed. Assist with training as required by the NERC standards.Communications: Maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.Technical Support: Provide technical support to other employees and contractors to insure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electric system.
