Certificate endorsed for school librarian for appropriate positionBachelors or Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalentLibrary experience preferred

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSBILITIES:

Operates and supervises the library to which assignedEvaluates, selects, and requisitions new library materialsAssists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materialsInforms teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquiresMaintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all libraries materials and instructs teachers and students on use of the systemArranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use by teachersWorks with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilitiesHelps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of library materials in relation to planned assignmentsPresents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacherParticipates in curriculum meetings. Responsible for implementing library skills curriculumCounsels with and gives guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interestsArranges frequently-changed book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest library patrons.Requisitions materials within the limits of the library budgetSupervises library aides in the performance of their dutiesParticipates actively in the library and other educational and professional associations on the local, regional, state, and national levelWeeds obsolete and worn materials from the collectionsSupervises the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the libraryCollaborates with classroom teachers to assist in addressing assessed core content areasPerforms other duties as assigned by the supervisor

192 DaysSalary Schedule: Certified Salary ScheduleFLSA Status: Exempt

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal
